We don't need all-stars at every position, we just need a FS back there who can be there when balls are deep, intercept something or knock something down.

With us getting to the QB fast this year, the Safeties should have a field day.

With Hamlin's play declining last year after such a serious head injury, I can easily understand Seattle's concern re signing him to a long-term big bucks contract. Other teams knowing the situation followed suit. Doubt many (if any) other team had the opportunity to sign him to 1 year $2.5M contract.

Our signing Hamlin was a result of several influences.
1. Gurode and Hamlin have the same agent. Don't forget how we re-signed Gurode to a 1 year deal for $1.5M with stip he'd be given legit shot to start at center. Gurode won the job & Jerry kept his word with his signing Gurode to big deal earlier this year.
2. Jerry has ties with Hamlin. Both are Arkansas football grads & Jerry maintained contact with Hamlin even tho we didn't draft him. This deal doesn't hurt the Cowboys if Hamlin isn't the player we need and/or Watkins beats him out.
3. This deal could really benefit Hamlin cause he's on the biggest stage in the NFL & if he plays well he could reap the money he wants either with us or with another team.

Who says Seattle could have had him for 2.5 million a year?

Well, he wanted to stay in Seattle. He came to Dallas because Seattle didn't even want to negociate. They just let him walk. They had full intentions on signing Grant.

Hamlin's play will be critical. I get the impression some think all we need do is apply Wade's defensive schemes and we'll sack the QB every other play and force interceptions in between. I do believe we'll get more pressure and more sacks esp if Ellis and Spencer are both productive. But we'll still need to provide good safety coverage. I think we'll get it but I'm not taking bets.

True but at least if we are getting pressure on the QB your forcing him to throw passes before he is ready. What I have been seeing is QB's with clean pockets that are able to step up into the pocket and deliver the pass and allows for more accurate passing. If we get the QB's off rhythm and throwing off their back foot it is going to benefits this secondary who has been asked to cover WR for 5 to 6 sec and that is hard on any DB even the best of them
