So like everyone it was exciting and deflating seeing smith at 34. its exciting because of his talent and accomplishments and its deflating because we don't know if he will ever apply those here.

However, if you take a big picture view to it and assume which is dangerous that he will in a year be getting ready for his first OTA then really he is not much different than what we went through with Ken Norton Jr.

Ken Norton Jr was a 6-2 245 lb stud linebacker from UCLA. He was taken at 41 in the second round of the 1988 draft. He played 3 games had 1 tackle and went to IR with a broken thumb.

If Smith is able to play next year and is healthy its really no different than the path Ken Norton JR took here except that we know smith will miss his first season and we did not know Norton would.

Obviously the injuries are completely different and a thumb is no big deal but they could take similar paths, the deflating part is we know smith wont play this year.

You can project Smith inside or outside. My player comps for this class....

Ezekiel Elliott - Emmitt Smith
Jaylon Smith - Lawrence Taylor
Maliek Collins - John Randle
Charles Tapper - Bruce Smith
Dak Prescott - Fran Tarkenton
Anthony Brown - Darrell Green
Kavon Frazier - Steve Atwater
Darius Jackson - Marcus Allen
Rico Gathers - Antonio Gates

Not projecting anything, just saying they are similar players from big programs who can play basically all three linebacker spots...Norton jr did play all three here for us.

Just comparing waiting a year on the player after injury.

Frazier reminds me more of Lott than Atwater

I see Dak as more of a Steve Young/ Dan Marino hybrib with some Ronnie Lott somehow getting into the pie

Ken never had the speed this kid has. Well, I'm talking pre injury.

right he was a more physical player but again I am comparing the waiting of a year for him to play. its essentially what happened with Norton Jr.

Holy crap, if half thats right, this would go down as one of the greatest drafts by an individual team in NFL history. Thats a HOF class by itself.

LOL!

All good except Jackson; he is more like Jim Brown.

Norton would take on blockers readily. Smith dances around blockers and doesn't seem to block shed well. I see Jaylon Smith as another Bruce Carter, when he was at his best.

well whatever I guess everybody is seeing the title and not reading.

Norton broke his thumb he didn't suffer a serious knee injury that could cause him to miss an entire year of football and never be the same player again. If Smith is unable to play in 2016 it's going to put his development way behind missing OTA's, training camp and an entire season rehabbing an injury. There were no concerns that Norton would return to form after his injury. You're making a comparison and there's no comparisons due to the players having totally different injuries.

I said right out Norton's injury was just a thumb.

You're still making a comparison and the two can't be compared.

maybe so, I just found it interesting. Both big time linebackers from big schools taken at nearly the same spot who wont play in the first season.
