So like everyone it was exciting and deflating seeing smith at 34. its exciting because of his talent and accomplishments and its deflating because we don't know if he will ever apply those here.
However, if you take a big picture view to it and assume which is dangerous that he will in a year be getting ready for his first OTA then really he is not much different than what we went through with Ken Norton Jr.
Ken Norton Jr was a 6-2 245 lb stud linebacker from UCLA. He was taken at 41 in the second round of the 1988 draft. He played 3 games had 1 tackle and went to IR with a broken thumb.
If Smith is able to play next year and is healthy its really no different than the path Ken Norton JR took here except that we know smith will miss his first season and we did not know Norton would.
Obviously the injuries are completely different and a thumb is no big deal but they could take similar paths, the deflating part is we know smith wont play this year.
