The most enjoyable game in my 35 years as a Cowboys fan. A perfect game on a perfect night. Even the Leon Lett stripped ball was fun. Ken Norton on that play...I was speechless. Too bad he left us. Should've been a Cowboy for life. Thanks for the memories.

I remember watching that play with Norton's back craned back like the ST. Louis Arch thinking "Hold up buddy, someone's gonna come help" No help was needed. That dude was a beast.

Great play, however, these types of posts to the 90's Cowboys dominant teams makes me a bit sad as well and I'll tell you why.

I harkens me back to the late 1980s when I was fervently anti-Packer growing up in an area (the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) that was 95% Packer fans. I mercilessly teased my Packers friends that, despite of their lackluster 20 years since the Lombardi's Packers era ended, constantly talked about the Lombardi Packers -- the great plays / game / players of that era.... and this was 1988-1989'sh. It's all they could talk about since the Packers sucked beyond bad from about 68-91 or so (anybody remember the "Bay of Pigs"?).

At the time I hammered them for living in the past -- talking about things that none of (I was 17 or so at the time) had even been alive for.

Now it's come full circle -- as a Cowboy fan I find myself harkening back the triplets era -- waning nostalgic about Jimmy Johnson, the 3 Superbowls, etc Half of the posters here on CZ weren't even alive of conscience of football by the time Cowboys own their last superbowl in 90s.

Hopefully this all changes here real soon and a modern (post 1995) Cowboy team and earn it's own Superbowl accolades.

We've officially become the old men playing cards at the nursing home, reminiscing about the good ole days.

Does anyone else think that Lett actually did break the plane of the goal line with that football, a millisecond before Beebe knocked it out of his hand?

See that's why stopping the run is crucial, because passing the ball in the red zone is waaaaaaay more difficult!

Hands down one of the five greatest plays in Cowboy history.

Two of the top fives plays in Cowboys history would be defensive plays. The one by Norton in the SB would clearly be the top defensive play and in my opinion the critical third down stop of John Riggins by Larry Cole in the 1979 season finale vs Washington that helped lead the Cowboys to that great come from behind victory would rank a close second to Norton's play.

I was thinking more of the Bob Lilly sack in SB 5. That has to be top 5 by any stretch. Hail Mary versus the Vikings and Butch Johnson catch in SB versus Denver would be a couple more IMO.

You're thinking about Lilly's sack in SB 6 on Bob Griese that resulted in a 29 yard loss. That was a huge play and one of the most memorable. Butch Johnson's catch vs Denver in the SB would definitely rank right up there although under todays rules that play probably would have been nullified because Johnson didn't hang on to the ball long enough. The Hail Mary would be the greatest play in Cowboys history but I would put the Aikman to Harper play vs SF in the 92 NFC title game as possibly the second greatest play in team history.

SF had just scored to close the gap to 4 points with just over 4 minutes to play. SF had the momentum and their crowd at candlestick was in a frenzy and the Aikman to Harper play took the wind right out of SF's sails and sealed the win. Coles 3rd down stop on Riggins who was having a great game was huge and would have to go down as one of the all-time great plays in team history.

Norton was allowed to walk because Jerry didn't place a high premium on linebacker play. And, truth be told, given how linebackers were used in Jimmy's version of the 4-3, they could be acquired relatively easily and cheaply. Between Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXX, the Cowboys had turnover at all three starting positions with very little drop off.
