Kenneth Murray to wear green dot over Sanborn?

Don't know. Eberflus plays a huge amount of nickel defense, among the most in the league, so we'll have two linebackers out there most of the time.

I think when we use three linebackers, we don't have much of a committee to choose from. Pretty much, Sanborn, Murray and Luifau are all we've got until Overshown comes back. Maybe Damone Clark will rebound in this system or maybe one of the rookies (James or Barron) will shine from the get-go. I kind of like Buddy Johnson, but I don't know if he'll ever be more than a reserve.

It will be interesting to see which two linebackers are out there in the nickel. Liufau is better in coverage, but it will primarily depend on who is best in Cover 3 zone.
Seems like it should be Murray and Liufau for now. Murray seems to
Be iffy against the run too.

His numbers were pretty good with the Chargers his last year (107 tackles w/79 solo and 3 sacks), which is why the Titans signed him for two years, $18 million. But his problems continued to show up instead of improving.

Apparently, his main issue was coverage. Same with Sanborn. So I guess Eberflus feels that his scheme can fix their coverage issues. They will be dropping into zones instead of doing a lot of one-on-one coverage.
I hope Eberflus can correct his flaws in the run defense as he has been very inconsistent primary due to his slow processing speed and overrunning plays. His PFF grades have been really bad and if you you listen to the fans of the teams that have seen the most of him (LAC, Titans) they could not wait to get rid of him. I think he fools you because he is a very good athlete but so far it has not translated to the field. He can make splash plays then make 4 bad ones in a row.

If you look at his highlights you will see a guy who can make plays when he does not need to think and just react. So hopefully Eberflus can put him in good positions.

Not impressed with his tackle numbers, as it matters where you are making those tackles (5 to10 yards down the field or at the line of scrimmage). Heck Damon Clark had 109 tackles w /70 solo in 2023. But don't think he was a guy we wanted to roll with if we didn't have too.

Again very good athlete but it just has never translated to the field, hopefully the LB guru can correct that or we are in trouble in the LB room.

Hoping for the best. He looks like a much better player than what we been led to believe. That said, Sanborn might be the best guy to have the green dot. I rather have Murray be the off ball linebacker. Let him use his athleticism. Let Sanborn call the d.

I was just saying this in another thread. How much of Murray's success or failures can you put on him vs. coaching, scheme, fit.

Not only that, he was expected to be sort of the guy, whereas here he just has to be a guy.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, his processing abilities have always been an issue. I think Eberflus is counting on the fact that his scheme is built around players carrying out their assignment without having to think too much.

BTW, the year that Clark had his 109 tackles, I thought he showed a lot of promise, but he dropped off the map from there.
