KENT: Former Browns defensive back Raymond Jackson thought he'd found a clone of old teammate Courtney Brown on Wednesday at Kent State University's pro day. KSU defensive end Monte' Simmons intrigued Jackson, the Pittsburgh Steelers' director of player development.

Simmons said his wingspan measured 831/2 inches, just shy of seven feet. Standing 6-foot-1 and 234 pounds, the muscular Simmons looks like all arms and legs when he runs, which he said has prompted such nicknames as ''Orangutan'' and ''Inspector Gadget.''

''He looks the part; he's a specimen,'' Jackson said of Simmons after the workout. ''He reminds me so much of Courtney Brown. Size-wise, he's a rare specimen. If you go off of looks, he's a day-one guy.

good god, on a 6'1" frame?

:D thats what the article said buddy, and why i posted it, maybe a find at linebacker for the cowboys, since the steelers are noted for finding linebackers to play the 3-4 defense

He's #49. I don't know about 83.5 inch wingspan, but those are some Jevon Kearse caliber arms.

Kent State has a nice late round safety sleeper that I've had an eye on because he has a good nose for the ball with 17 career interceptions in college (the most of any Div I player in this year's draft class). He tested out pretty well at the Kent State Pro Day.

Kent State defensive back Brian Lainhart did not have to be invited to the NFL Scouting Combine to catch the eye of pro scouts.

Lainhart, who was not one of 300 players invited to the event on Feb. 24, stood out at Kent State’s Pro Day.

Scouts from nine NFL teams that included the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins, were on-hand to watch 13 Flashes go through the same rigorous physical testing that takes place at the combine.

Lainhart, who graduated in December 2010, did not let the pressure phase him.

The 6-foot-1, 212 pound safety recorded 28 reps of 225 lbs., a 37.5-inch vertical jump, 10.5-foot broad jump and ran 4.25 seconds in the short shuttle.

Don't know why he doesn't generate more buzz. You would think the reigning Div I Interception leader would at least get a Combine invite, especially if he can put up those kind of workout numbers.

Kent State football players arrested Facing felony charges for Brimfield incident

http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/3408722

Two Kent State University football players were arrested Friday on charges of felony burglary, and a third former player is wanted on a warrant on the same charge.

Cabroni D. Mixon, 20, of 1953 Mohawk Place, Kent, and Brian Lainhart, 20, of the same address, were arraigned Monday in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna via video from the Portage County jail. Each is charged with one count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, according to court records. Both were arrested Friday by Brimfield police on the warrants.

A third man, Christen L. Haywood, 20, of 103 Lake Hall, KSU, also is facing the same charge but has not yet been arrested. Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said a warrant has been issued for Haywood's arrest.
According to the complaints, filed by the Brimfield Police Department, the charges stem from an incident that occurred Oct. 28 in the 4800 block of Sunnybrook Road. The three are accused of entering a home by force and causing multiple injuries to two other men.

Hmm.. havent heard about that before. Apparently the football players (including Lainhart) kicked down the door of a house that was hosting a party in which one of their female friends was assaulted, entered the home and started beating people up.

On the other side of the coin, Lainhart also won an award voted on by his teammates as the hardest worker on the team on and off the field, and was voted team captain.

He better make it in the league. Poor guy needs to get his clothes custom made. Knuckles drag on the ground.
