Philadelphia Eagles fans have taken well to new head coach Chip Kelly. Would Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin have been greeted in a similar manner?

We might never know, but not because of a lack of effort by the Eagles. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Sumlin was offered the Eagles' top job after Texas A&M's 11-2 season in 2012.

Presumably, this came after Kelly initially rebuffed Philadelphia's advances. Sumlin said he had an offer in hand from an NFL team, though he didn't specify who it was.

"I don't have to say anything," Sumlin said about speculation tying him to a jump to the NFL. "Everybody knows what I do (now). I've never coached in the NFL. I've had plenty of opportunities to do that, both as an assistant coach and even as a head coach. But there's a reason I coach college football, and we've got a lot of work to do here."

Things worked out for all involved. Kelly made the jump he'd been itching over and Sumlin snagged a $1.1 million raise from the Aggies. File this under "What if?"

I would not be surprised if Sumlin was on Jerry's list as well.

Not just Jerry's, but a lot of teams. He's getting the same buzz around college and pros as the Haurbaugh's did. Well, at least here in Texas. Sumlin is always being discussed about, which is a first considering the other coaches in the big 12/SEC that are out there. Muschamp being one.
