Key to the Season

I know it's not rocket science but the key to this upcoming season is how well the offensive line plays. I really think that the defense is ready to be elite and could possibly keep us in the race all by themselves as long as the offense is serviceable. Adding Turpin to the special teams makes that unit dangerous, too.
But if the offense were somehow to be able to throw up 24-28 points per game this team could make a run. The key to this is to establish a running game and a passing game based off of play action to keep the opposing defense from pinning their ears back on every play. And, of course, to limit penalties and turnovers.
Having said all of that, I am all for putting Tyler Smith out at left tackle to start the season but also giving him as much help as possible until he gains experience and confidence. Have the tight end lineup next to him to chip the DE to help out. But I would also like to bring in another veteran left tackle who could step in in case the growing pains are too painful. We can't risk the season on a rookie tackle from a small school and Josh Ball as a backup plan.
So, come on Jerry and Stephen, step up to the plate and take out some of that dry powder to make sure we are covered in case Tyler isn't as ready as we all hope. It's gonna be fun season watching the defense and special teams but it could be special if we secure the offensive line with more depth and experience.

Nope.......Zeke and the Defense are the cogs that can keep us in contention this coming season.
Ball control and keeping opponents under 20 points as our offense will struggle against real defenses as usual.
May the force be with us!!!

P.S.Opps forgot the field goal kicker as we have issues in the Red-Zone:banghead:

I agree with your first two points.

Not for putting Tyler at LT this year, he has been practicing at LG essentially for all of camp and was still a pretty raw prospect at LT in college. His ankle injury will also limit him at this position. Though I do agree we need a veteran tackle as of yesterday to help give us some depth on the line.

Defense, turnovers, and special teams (turpin) will carry the team this year.

If we don't find a quality LT to replace Tyrone, this offense is not going to be dangerous.
Dak has to have time to throw the intermediate and long pass routes.

Until we start throwing the deep ball successfully and getting our run game back we wont go far, The two most important keys left to making that happen (already have Dak and Zeke/Pollard) is a solid O-line and a feared WR corp we have neither thanks to the lack of "really caring" by the GM/Owner, his bills are paid and his bank account is still growing. Our defense will be on the field so long every game we will likely have injuries and be beat down by the 2nd half.

I do believe that's safe to say. I think there will be a rare number of times when lotsa time for Dak might be hard to come by.

The defense is ready to take the next step.
The offense has to do its part and not be a 3 and out machine.

If they consistently don't convert 3rd downs then the defense will end up getting tired.

My key is offense converting 3rd downs.

Sounds good!

Martin has RT experience and also got injured when he played RT in NFL. In fact , I wouldnt want to weaken 2 positions , instead play Tyler at LG, Ball or FA tackle in LT and use the blocking TE to help and roll with it, Moore should come out with quick hitting short passing , misdirection runs , end arounds and plain running between tackles to move the ball, it wont be high scoring offense , more like ball hawking slow methodical offense , Hopefully defense comes to play and be opportunistic and gives short fields .

That is one feasible plan.
I just wish we would trade for or sign a decent free agent LT, so as not to to limit our playbook.

Free Agent or trade is a must , but anyone who comes in will need more than the 1-1/2 weeks to be on same page with rest of the OL , chemistry will take even longer.

Do you not see Tyler as a quality LT who must learn the NFL way?
I think in time he will get there.
But it's a big learning curve.
I would hate to see his confidence destroyed
Or dak get injured while Tyler has growing pains.
Wish we would obtain a one year stop gap LT.
