How much better is Austin in the slot than Harris? How much better is Austin on the outside than TWill?

That should answer which three WRs should be out there when we go 3WR.

I go with Dez and Miles outside, and Harris in the slot until TWill learns the offense.

If Miles is going to be effective in the slot against the blitz, they need a hot read other than a slant. The Chiefs zoned a player into that slant every time they blitzed with Miles in the slot. Not once did we try to go over the top.

For god's sake, can we get some double moves. There isn't a single defensive back in the omniverse that is covering Austin or Bryant on a double move. Bryant on a flag route would murder defenses. Flag Bryant and have Austin streak from the slot on the same side of the field. MURDER!

Ok I may need to sleep now. That other thread wore me out...

I've exposed the Witten stuff plenty of times. He and Romo need to get outta here.

As much as it pains me to say it, I am starting to feel the same way. I dont think Romo reads defenses very well, definately not as well as he should be given his experience. Witten has been one of my favorite players but I he is just too slow to really threaten defenses down the seem. Both these things are really limiting the offense.

Romo's contract is going to hold this team back for at 3 years more years.

Id also like to see them scrap the whole call 2 plays in the huddle every down thing. Lets get a play in there, get to the line and get going, this offense has no pace to it at all.

I think the only way to fix our offense is to play with more tempo and find a running game.

This?? Witten a HOF TE sucks and Romo sucks. LOL The problem is and has been the play calling period. Callahan is terrible. Example, WR screen in the red zone (there no way Romo checked down to that, it was designed). What a joke when you have 2 (Witten, Dez) ball hawking red zone threats.

I didnt say Witten sucks, but he is SLOW and we have NO one who threatens the middle of the field in the 12 offense. Everything to Witten is within 10 yards of the LOS, you cant tell me having a TE who can threaten LBs deep wouldnt open up the running game and other passing lanes. That is a joke. Im not arguing that the play calling is good, it isnt but It is also limited by some of the personnel.

We have to agree to disagree. Witten has never been fast he's just good at getting open and catches almost everything. He's also staying in more to block. Escobar and Hanna are supposed to threaten the LBs, which has yet to happen due to play calls.

They have only played two games.

Game 1, 1st half:
Starting a rookie center and basically a rookie LG.
The Giants throw a coverage at them they weren't expecting.
The defense gets turnovers, so the offense takes what is given to them
Romo hurt at the end of the half

Game 1, 2nd half
Still starting the young guys--who are holding up ok (except for Romo already gettign hurt)
Playing with a lead, stakced coverage vs dez, a young line, and hurt QB...so they remain conservative mode.
Dallas wins a big divisional matchup.
1-0

Game 2, 1st half
The young line has a game under their belt
Romo is on meds, but hurt
Very hostile road crowd
Weak run game
But Dez is getting single coverage
Attack with Dez

Game 2, 2nd half
Line still hanging in there and Waters worked in some
Romo is now hurting and clearly having trouble throwing left (across his body) so hurt 75% of season so far.
The team is leading
KC is bringing safety help more vs Dez
Run game still sux
Big drop and two turnovers turn a most likely win into a close game
Dezs on left in single coverage (but Romo throwing the ball terribly in that direction)..Cowboys blow it i the redzond and take the 3.
Team ends up losing on the road by 1.
1-1

Bottomline:
The first games are a very small sample size given all of the extenuating circumstances.
Look around the league and you'll see that most teams have had a wide variety of results from week to week already.

Going forward.
Maturing line (both Leary and TFred) and the addition of Waters
Romo on the mend and probably fine by week 4
Ad defense good enoough to keep them in games.
OC and dez adjusting to the varying coverages
T Will and Escobar and the backup RBs getting more involved.

The quickest way to improve the offense now is to get the running game going. If I were the GM I would admit that we need FBs on the roster. I am not saying Dallas should scrap the 2 TE offense, but they should mix in some FB lead blocking plays as well. This can be accomplished very easily. First Dallas should cut a reciever from the practice squad. Dallas is rolling deep at WR and I feel a receiver at the practice squad is a waste. Dallas could easily part with Benford or Newsome and bring in the cut FB from Kansas City Braden Wilson on the practice squad. That guy obliterated people in college and is a more traditional fullback. Next Dallas should cut Philip Tanner. While I'm not down on Tanner what is the use of having him if you are not going to utulize him? Dallas would be better off cutting him and bringing in the terminator John Conner. He was recently cut from Cincinati and has attended a training camp. He should be in football shape and ready to roll right now. Since Dallas wants to keep using the 2 TE offense, Conner would not have to learn alot of plays, just the ones that require a fullback.

Lastly Dallas should start Andre Smith at TE. He is a much better blocker than Escobar and Hanna. Escobar should be inactive on game day and only be played if Hanna or Witten get hurt. Yeah people will call him a bust, but the staff needs to realize he is not ready to contribute until he can become a stronger blocker. He needs a year in a NFL strength training program. Dallas needs to stick it out with the 2 TE offense but Smith should play now. He should not be the inactive TE on game day. It is ludicrous to think that Hanna and especially Escobar are getting playing time merely because of their draft position.

Having the power of Smith as a blocking TE and the sledgehammer John Conner would open up the run game now. This is would should happen now. Making these simple non expensive changes would tremendously help the run game instead of us having to seen Escobar/Hanna get manhandled on running downs. Also having Barden Wilson would ensure Dallas has a serviceable FB even if Conner gets hurt.

Give me Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley over T. Will. Let T. Will earn his stripes by watching these two guys work. I miss the production we were getting from Harris. Beasley just knows how to find the opening.

Agree. There is really nothing special about Terrance Williams. He is not fast, or quick, or crafty, or even a threat with YAC. He body catches at times. He's really just tall and a solid college player. Like Sam Hurd or Deveren Johnson. We already have his skills with Dez and Miles, what we need is diversity: need speed and quickness in our WR portfolio.

Its an absolute mystery to me what happened to the delay draw. That was one of the few running plays this team executed consistently. More head scratchers from the offensive brain trust.

1. Feed Dez, ESPECIALLY in the Red Zone - Model how the Lions use Calvin Johnson. It doesn't matter if everyone in the whole stadium knows Dez is getting the ball, throw him the ball. I don't care if you have to do it 3 times in a row in the red zone, he will eventually come down with the ball. Force yourself down their throats.

2. Feed the hot hand - Continue to feed the hot hand until the defense figures out a way to stop it. Then once they do, the others will get enticing matchups and opportunities.

3. Activate and utilize Cole Beasley - Our third down efficiency is atrocious. We can't sustain any drives. Let's bring in Cole Beasley, who at the worst can get us some first downs. Guy has a knack for getting open.

4. Stop forcing throws to Jason Witten - Teams have figured out that if they take Jason Witten out of the game, Romo will start forcing bad throws to him in critical times of the game. Romo is so reliant on Witten that sometimes to a detriment. If we are going to go anywhere we need to be more reliant on Bryant, not Witten.

5. Speed up the offense - I don't know why they call this the "hurry up" offense if all they do is confuse their own guys, and still practically wait until the playclock is down to 0. Romo was at his best last year when they were in deficits and he had to create plays, and put defenses on their heels. Even if the Giants game when they went hurry up, we see what it did to the defensive players. They were gasping for air. Then you can exploit defenses with big plays to Dez and running the ball. So let's do a "real" hurry up.

6. More creativity on offense, ESPECIALLY in running game - Our offense is so stagnant. We do nothing different. We need to take advantage of defenses weaknesses, and utilize our offenses strengths. Why don't we ever do a reverse option throw for Dez, who supposedly has a cannon for an arm? Or any type of trick plays? Or even just simply setting up our runs a little better.

7. Keep using Lance Dunbar - Yes I know he has fumbleitis. I don't care, continue working with him. Spend extra time with him practicing holding on to the football. He gives our offense something we are badly lacking, speed and explosiveness. Give him 1 more chance. If it happens again, obviously we have no more choice but to stop using him.

8. Put teams away - For some reason, it seems year after year with this team we like to let teams hang around rather then put them away. Whether its playing soft prevent defense, or calling predictable plays on offense, its like we don't want to end games. Rather we want to keep all games close, and let teams have a chance at the end. This team is WAY too conservative at times. In the Giants game it almost came down to bite us, but in the Chiefs game it actually did. We need to deliver knock out blows, rather then let every game go 12 rounds.

Fix these things, and it could go a LONG way

That was pretty dam good.
