Keyshawn on GAC - 6/30/08

Has he ever actually said this? Has he even said he's the best WR of all-time, or of his era? I strongly doubt that he has.

Key knows what he is... a great WR who had a great career. Over 800 catches, over 10,000 yards, and a Super Bowl ring. Not a bad resume. If anything, he is underrated by many of his haters who view him as an average player who only thinks he was great.

Yes, his off-field attitude reflects the fact that he knows what he was. But he was never a prima-donna between the stripes. He was tough as nails and arguably the best blocking WR in the game. I remember times while he was a Cowboy where Parcells had him line up in the backfield and throw crackback blocks on a DE. How many WRs do you know who would do that type of dirty work?

Hate on the man all you want, but it takes tremendous consistency to put up 4 1000+ yard seasons and go over 800 yards every single year of your career (excluding the year the Bucs suspended him).

Calm down bro. I'm not going to put out a contract on him, I just think he's a little full of himself at times.

LOL, no doubt.

And if Keyshawn was "great"... Well, I think that's a very liberal use of the word "great".

I also love how he always throws out that Super Bowl ring as if he carried that team to the trophy. The year they won -- when the defense did most of the work anyway -- he wasn't even as good as Keenan McCardell on his own team.

He has more than once said he is a complete WR and that he does EVERYTHING... the BIG CATCHES and the INTANGIBLES.

I am sure someone, somewhere can find something along the lines of Key saying he is GREAT.

IMO he is above average and few extra points for the tough catches and intangibles.

Was he lying?

Either way, that's not what my question referred to. I don't think he drastically overrates himself like so many others believe.

But if you could find a quote from him that proves otherwise, I'd appreciate it.

Yeah, how dare he throw out the ONLY THING that truly matters when it comes to a team sport!

He was a major contributor on a Super Bowl winning team. So why is it silly to be proud of that team accomplishment? Would you scoff if Alvin Harper was proud of his rings?

"As if he carried the team to the trophy"...

Except, well... he never actually SAID that, now did he? No, that appears to be yet another fabrication.

Unless if you can provide a quote, which once again, I'd appreciate.

Here's my criteria.

At any given year, there are over 150 WRs in the NFL. You're well above average if you're good enough to be a starter on a team.

You're very good if you're able to be a #1 WR.

And you're great if you're able to be a #1 WR for the majority of your career while going to 3 Pro Bowls, making an All-Pro Team, and finishing your career with over 10,000 yards and over 800 catches.

But I guess that's just me.
