I am wondering if he is now a lock with what might be considered a long deal for a low pick....as in the team saw enough of him at minicamp/ota's to give him a 4 year deal.

I think 1st rounders are 5 year deals and 4 years for all other rounds now.

I'm surprised that any of these guys (sans 1st and 2nd rounders) got any more than a 3 year deal. At the end of four years they are unrestricted FAs. I guess it eliminates the need to outbid for their services in the restricted FA market. Which now that I think about it isn't such a bad deal. If we had tendered Davis from the beginning at 4 years, we wouldn't have hade to outbid New Orleans for his services last year.

Not a bad strategy in hindsight, I suppose.
