Ryan impressed me a lot, mostly because of what he did in spite of the cards he was dealt. There is a reason why New Orleans took him. Their organization actually knows what they're doing. I think Kiffin is a decent coach, but I don't think he's better than Rob Ryan.

Ryan was too much of a mad scientist. That said, he was far from the only problem, and I wasn't crazy about replacing him with Kiffin.

I will never understand anyone who bought into Kiffin in the Giants game. The defense gave up 400 yards passing to Eli. This defense has been horrible all year so far.

Exactly, those turnovers had nothing to do with the defense. All those turnovers were purely because Eli is god awful.

I don't want to take away defensive effort, but the notion that somehow Monte Kiffin was responsible was just laughable. And we were in a position to still LOSE that game...

Certain schemes can't be run unless you have the proper personnel. This is one of those. Even if you have an amazing pass rush, and you can't control the screen passes, or swing passes, or quick hitches, having a great pass rush won't matter. Is there another 4-3 scheme we can use other than the tampa 2?

it would work if we could get pressure but sadly our defensive problems stem from the lack of pass rush and overall trench control.

I have to agree with this. If you can't put pressure on the QB with the tampa 2, its a scheme thats dead in the water. You can't really blame Kiff for that. Ware seems like his broken. Spencer and Rat are MIA and we have a bunch of people off the streets doing the dirty work. Thats not a scheme problem. Its a talent problem. The blame goes to Jerry on this. Why didn't we address that issue during the offseason and the draft?

In 2012 with Marinelli as the D-Coordinator in Chicago, this scheme was ranked 3rd in total points allowed and 3rd in points-per-game allowed. They were 1st in interceptions, 2nd in passer rating against and 8th in sacks.

Not really the same scheme, and Kiffin is the top dog here, not Marinelli.

I'm all for man-to-man coverage, press coverage, having safeties play closer, etc. But it is a high-risk high-reward proposition.

The same Cowboys fans who would be delighted by more plays made by the defense playing press coverage, man-to-man, etc., would probably be howling as soon as some opposing QB torches the Cowboys for 70-yard touchdowns because there wasn't enough coverage back deep on the play.

Dude, we are 31st in the NFL in pass defense.....................we are getting roasted anyways.

last week Mr. Python had the LBs flying out of there and forced the DL to do a lot of read then rush. I predict we cut the front four loose tonight and we fair better.

I can save you the time.................USC got roasted on a weekly basis when Monte was there.........Chip Kelley put 700 yards on that defense one game if I remember correctly...........He is now coaching the Eagles that will be in first place tonight if we lose.
