Stop acting as if the cops intentions were to harm the baby. That wasn't their primary goal or goal at all. Unfortunately bad things happen. This story is not an example of bad cops or dirty cops or even killer cops. It is an example of an unfortunate circumstance.
And for the first story, there isn't enough information to draw any definite conclusions yet. Seems to be some conflicting accounts and the term "special needs" isn't even clearly defined in that article. This cop may have very well overreacted, but nothing in that article gives sufficient information to reach that conclusion.

Joe, I don't attribute the actions I the police in the first story to be intentional, it is a systemic problem with the over-militarization of poloce in the US. I recommend "Rise of the Warrior Cop" for some background on the issue. Instances of using SWAT have risen exponentially in the US. What you must understand that in the first story, these police officers whre attempting to make an arrest for a non-violent drug crime and their overreaction and agrresive tactics led to this poor child being critically injured.
In the second story, police give the most overused explanation for their actions "fearing for the life of the officer". Fear from an 18 year old girl who may or may not have a handicap. More and more we see this justification as a catch-all that absolves any action committed by police why we allow them to review the cases internally which almost always finds no fault on their own parts.
I'm sure you have seen the situation in New Mexico, which has fostered public outcry. The same is spreading across this country. We are having our once friendly neighborhood policeman transformed into a militiristc soldier responding to threats that at not there with no accountability and only themselves to answer to.
I'm sorry, but it coming to the point where the criminals and the ones who are supposed the serve and protect are poising a similar threat to society.
