I am not one to minimize a win. I am GLAD we won. I like this feeling as opposed to the one I had last Sunday night. But I expected to feel slightly better than I do today…and I don’t. So I am trying to figure out why and I thought I would take my fellow Zoners on my quest to discover why.

A lack of awareness of where we TRULY stand as an organization. This became apparent to me as I witnessed how we handled pre-season. As I looked around the league during the preseason and saw Manning, Rogers, Brady etc…take meaningful snaps during the pre-season….I sat dumbfounded as we determined a QB that was playing with a new WR corps did not need to be on the field. I wanted Dak to throw the ball 25 times a game during the pre-season…I don’t care if he threw 5 picks….the process of taking drops, going through reads, delivering the football at all levels of the field..is critical to his development. Especially considering he himself is still VERY young and has a LOT to prove! This organization was is OK with using the REGULAR SEASON to knock the rust off!? This group has not done ANYTHING. This upcoming offseason will be the BIGGEST we have had since we hired Parcells. We have to decide whether to pay Dak big money…or get rid of him, Garrett, Marinelli and Linehan this offseason….and we chose to loaf into the season?! Does the front office UNDERSTAND that we have 2….2….playoff wins in the past 22+ years!?

My next issue is killer instinct. We should have put up 30+ points on the Giants last night. But what you saw last night has been very typical of the ENTIRE Garrett era. ZERO KILLER INSTINCT!!!!!!!!!! Get a lead…and do enough to stay ahead and let the clock bleed out. That does nothing to develop the still very young talent on the team….nothing to create a culture of killer instinct….does nothing to build the chemistry on a team that is still getting to know each other…and does nothing to properly assess Dak. Again….you have to put Dak under fire as much as possible to allow him to grow…AND….AND to see how he responds with the game in HIS hands. Not only that…you are going to get Zeke killed constantly having him ram it up in there against 8 in the box. And if you are going to do that…give 5 of those carries to Rod Smith…to preserve Zeke a little bit. But….But….If the opposition is daring you to throw the ball 50 times a game…THEN DO IT. Of course I don’t mean that literally. But all these young fast WRs you have brought in…let them put pressure on the defense. Until we do this relentlessly….the defenders will NOT back off.

Lastly, on the positive note….the defense. We have not been this fast and aggressive in a LONG time. Of course…it has only been 2 games….but I hope they stay aggressive and physical. If Dallas is trying to build a team like Seattle….the defense has to play this way for 60 mins. And you have to be greedy. Remember the 85 Bears? Or some of those great Ravens defense. Or the Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, John Lynch, Ronde Barber led defense. They did not LET people score once they knew they had the game won. The had a burning desire to shut you out AND humiliate you in the process. The culture Garrett has created has made it okay to “do enough to win” But you cannot have that mentality if you are going to have and offense that averages 20 points a game. I love the direction this defense is on…and my prayer is that Garrett does not rub off on them too much!

In closing. Glad we won. Dak played better. Almost impossible NOT to go up from last week’s performance. But I want to see more. Sorry if that seems greedy to some folks….but Andy Reid and that young kid in KC…the Jags….the Rams….heck the Buccaneers….those are what HUNGRY….not satisfied….teams look like.

dude did Jacksonville put up 30? no they didnt the Giants defense is better then you are describing..you are correct we arent aggressive and coast with 10points leads too much..hard fought win against a division rival when most fans/media said we were going to lose..they did have Saquan, OBJ, Engram etc etc we won..yes awins a win move on to seatle..

On top of that, our defence did brilliantly and that's two games in a row of very sound performances, overall, by our defence. This is going to be MASSIVE down the stretch if our defence can continue to improve and develop. This will be what carries us over the top. We don't need an elite QB if we can develop our defence into an elite defence. Seattle didn't exactly have an offencive explosion against Denver (painful to talk about as I like the Broncos as long as they're not playing us) in the Super Bowl in NJ. They dominated Denver defencively which is what led to that domination. That's what we NEED to have. We NEED our defence to be able to dominate, as most successful teams do. All we need is Dak to just drive the lorry.

We're feelin this way because we know the Gnats are just not too good, only somewhat revamped after a 3-13 season.

But the 'Boys are so young that improvement should be expected every week, and they might be solid by December when others are flaming out.

We'll see how it goes.

Football is not that complicated. Here's an easy system to follow.
Win :) Lose :(

You're welcome;)

I agree that it was frustrating to not really blow the doors off of the Giants early - this game could have been over at halftime.

But an 8:23 touchdown drive in the 4th quarter is about as killer as it gets.

I hear you...but look at the Eagles as a case study in the Post-Chip era. Bad contracts, rookie head coach...rookie QB...injuries. They did not let ANY of that deter them. The process did not have a "timeline" tied to it...the goal was to win...NOW. We are constantly trying to get all the stars aligned...and then....then....we will "go for the throat". That kind of attitude is prevalent throughout this organization. That has become the culture. So every "setback" is a reason to take a measured approach. And you see that throughout the game....I think Garrett was very content to be up 13 or so points with 30 mins of football left and just hope for the clock to hit zero. That is the attitude I hope leaves when we finally can him!
