There used to be a penalty for aiding of helping a runner move forward. Does anyone know if this is still a rule? If it is, why is is never called. I see it multiple time during every game I watch. I've seen it at least 3 time so far today in the early games.

Are there any other rules that are never called any more?

It's still a rule as far as I know. Players can not physically grab the runner and pull him forward but I think it is ok to get behind them and kind of push.

The rule takes it roots in the game of rugby. The rules allow you to move the pile forward by assisting the runner's forward momentum, but disallows any other physical assistance like carrying or pulling the runner forward.

Similar to the scrum.

There are rules and then there is the concept of emphasis.

It is against the rules, but there is not a big emphasis on calling it.

Wasn't this a big topic of discussion when USC played Notre Dame in 2005? And Leinart helped Bush into the endzone?

Could be a judgment call. I seen it often when a runner is trying to move a pile and others run into the pile pushing everyone forward, this is never called.
If in an open field or just a few players, it may be more obvious.

There was a TD against the Cowboys this year, can't recall what game. Contact around the 3, Cowboys on defense, the player was going down, but an offense player came in, and maybe not on purpose, may have been blocked into him. Kept the player upright enough to get a TD.
