In response to Jerry's press conference, both just said that Cason is one of their top 4 corners and would be good value at 22. Perhaps some of you "I only listen to the experts" types might believe now.

:D

*** are you talkin about?
Kiper JUST SAID Cason would be a nice pick for us in round TWO with our 2nd rounder!
BOTH of their top 4 are DRC/McKelvin/Jenkins/Talib
So I don't knwo WHAT your talkin about, but it aint' true!

There will not be 12-15 DB's taken in the first two rounds, how do you figure that? I'd love to see your list.

I don't think he lasts till our 2nd pick either, because if he isn't the bottom of the top teir guys, he's the top of the 2nd teir.

Oh I was just going off of historical trends. We pick at 28 in the second and in the past 5 drafts that would have been somewhere around the 12th and 15th DB taken:

2007: 13 DBs taken before where we pick in the 2nd
2006: 14 DBs
2005: 15 DBs
2004: 11 DBs
2003: 15 DBs

With a strong CB class to offset the weak safety class I think you'll see a similar # of DBs taken. You can probably figure on Talib, Jenkins, McKelvin, Cromartie, Cason, Porter, Kenny Phillips, Flowers and Reggie Smith being gone for sure. That would put us at 10 DBs taken. Then there's possibilities of guys like Godfrey, Lee and King. So I think it's probably a pretty fair estimate.

Ah, safeties, that's what tripped me off. For some reason I thought you meant CB's.

Thanks for scaring me even more though, now I'll panic if we don't take a CB in the first. ;)

Ya, I just watched that too, and I think you misunderstood. They both agreed that if either of the top 4 corners (who they then named as Jenkins, McKelvin, DMC and Talib) were there at 22 then the Cowboys have to take them. They both that if those top 4 were all not available, they should get Cason in the second round, and that he would be good value there.

For Cason to be there when we pick in the second he'd have to be somewhere between the 12th and 15th DB taken. That's just not going to happen. He could last to the early second sure, and could possibly be a target if we trade down with a pick in that case. But if he's there at 28 and we still have the pick then we grab Cason without thinking twice in my opinion.

not if he's rated as a player in the 40's or 50's...

What I don't get is how all the talk leading into this last season had Cason ranked as arguably the best CB, yet he goes out and produces his best season and drops down the board to players who were previously afterthoughts.

He was ranked as the #1 or #2 (behind Malcolm Jenkins) all season up through January too. Won the Thorpe award. Then the "zone corner" meme picked up steam for some reason.

Many of us have been saying we have to take a CB in the first. That's assuming there is CB left with a first round grade.

Ssshhhh ppl aren't supposed to know how good Cason is thats why he is going to be a steal for us when we draft him at 28.

Kiper and McShay

I think its kind of a slap to Kiper that he has to do that segment with McShay. McShay is arrogant and condescending.

Nothing wrong with different pov's or playing devil's advocate.... but Kiper clearly doesnt want any part of that...

there's a big range of where he's rated, some have him rated alot lower, a few somewhat higher...he's defintiely not a concensus 1st rd pick

we'll see what the NFL peeps think of him Saturday

I'm kind of confused. Both Kiper and McShay say Cason is one of the top 4 corners, yet in their mocks, Kiper has Cason as the 10th corner taken (61st overall) and McShay has him as the 8th corner taken (37th overall). I know thinking that he's the 4th best corner is different than saying he'll be the 4th corner taken, but both seem to think he will be taken after a lot of other corners. (Not that I agree)

I heard them live, I didnt hear either of them say he was in their top-4 CB's...both of them said McKelvin, DRC, Jenkins and Talib were the obvious top-4

doesnt mean its the way NFL teams will rank them, but thats what I heard them say tonight
