If Jerry resigns Tyron, OT at 24 is off the table IMO. It's a deep position. I don't see the logic in using a 1st if your future HOFer is still starting and playing at a high level. Draft a flex guy with 56 or 87 who can swing and be Tyron's future replacement. In other words, I'm not drafting an OT at 24 if I don't have a starting position for him.

Well then you're fixated on need in an exercise that is all about acquiring talent.

This is why Barton is the best pick at 24.

Short term thinking bad in general but particularly teams that arent close, like this team. Think aggregate talent aquasition. Other than Tyler i see age and mediocrity everywhere.

This is true but again, if Tyron resigns, no way I'm using 24 at OT....especially in a deep draft at the position. If Tyron walks.....count me in 100% but if not, I am using 24 at a more needed position IF possible......CB, S, WR, DE
** CB......Yes Diggs is back but Gilmore is having surgery ( he struggled a bit even healthy) and Bland struggles with speed receivers )
** S ........Who's 2024 starter that doesn't need upgrading
**WR......Gallup likely walks. That leaves Lamb, Cook and Tolbert. I'm OK with this unless a Lamb type drops to 24
**DE.......Amstrong is an FA, and DLaw's contract needs adjusting ( this was the final year of any G'teed money on his deal)

*******MLBer ........that's a 2nd day pick IMO but I would much rather they address it via free agency. They are just not good at drafting LBers. Besides, you know what you are getting with a free agent ( Wagner??? )

If Newton is available at 24 it would be hard for me to pass on him

I would agree. I would trade back and take one of the top Centres.

I see a lot of mock drafts with us taking Sweat in the 2nd. But I think he is long gone by the time Dallas drafts in the 2nd. In fact, I think many teams value DT so highly, Sweat may go in the top 15. He is what Dallas needs, but will never get near him.

I still think Dallas takes and Edge rusher or WR at 24.

I knew T'Vondre Sweat would eventually move in round one conversation. He is by far my top target. It usually takes all the draft gurus a little time to rank talent to what I already know. All my top targets fly up the draft board.

I’d bet Murphy goes ahead of him…he’s picking up a ton of steam and have seen a few mocks with him going top 25.

Sweat in round 2 would be epic.

I like Murphy, but I am wary of DT tandems where you don't know if one player makes the other. I just think Sweat, if he pans out, is more of what Dallas needs. They need an immovable object in the middle of the DL. Hankins it not going to last forever.

That’s fair if you think Sweat is a better fit for what we need…Id probably agree just saying Murphy is a better prospect according to most.

I think I read he had like 40+ pressures this year which is absurd for a DT.

To be honest, I have not watched enough Texas games this year. Murphy looks strong and powerful but I wonder if he benefits from playing next to Sweat - or does Sweat benefit playing next to Murphy.

In the end I don't think it will matter. I am convinced the Cowboys will be drafting Edge or WR in the first. But free agency will tell us a lot.

You are assuming depth means we will be able to get one later, which for OT is unlikely. When drafts are deep with top quality talent, there is usually a large run on it in the top 45. Meaning we are very unlikely to get a quality LT in the 2nd

And the gap between our 3rd and comp 5th is near 200 picks.

Sweat was double teamed almost the entire season, Micah treatment. They wouldn't be able to double team Micah and Sweat.
My only thing, it's just hard to imagine we go DT two years straight.
