Kitna can we resign him for a season and than possibly keep him as a Quarterback Coach when he quits playing ? What's others views on KItna as a Quarterback Coach in the future. He seems to have the fire to translate for the younger guy's.

I honestly thought his Contract was up after this season. However do you think he would make a good QB coach after his playing days are over ?

No, because Kitna is going to want a Brady / Manning type contract. ;)

I think after he came to Dallas they extended his contract. As for being a good QB coach yes I think he could but the question really is does he want to do that?

I think so. Could be a wonderful O-Coordinator as well.

His mechanics look pretty solid and that's a big part of the QB coach position...knowing mechanics. I don't believe that one should teach one particular style of mechanics because what works for Kurt Warner wouldn't work for Joe Montana and vice versa. I think the footwork should be pretty universal, but the throwing motion should be able to vary in part because many times the QB has to throw off his backfoot to avoid the blitz, so going away from their natural throwing motion that worked for them would be tough for them to do when they need to make that off balanced, back foot throw.

That being said, I'd probably avoid having QB's with a windmill windup. Of course, I think I'd avoid drafting them all together as they don't have a lot of success throwing the ball in the NFL.

I think Kitna generally knows where he supposed to go with the ball pre-snap which is also important for a QB coach. But most O-Coordinators could teach that (whether or not the QB actually learns it is another thing).

I was big on Kitna from day one because he's a guy that still had plenty of pop in his arm and was a guy who would relish in either the backup or the starter role. It's pretty rare because most backup QB's will not go out of their way to help the starter, but Kitna does.

Not sure he would want to be a coach. Your looking at a huge paycut and extended hours. I can see Kitna working in the studio.

Or becoming an accountant :laugh2:

He might make a good coach one day. That depends entirely on rather he even wants to do that or not.

I read once he retires, he plans to coach an inner city school in his hometown of Tacoma Wash.

I thought Kitna was signed for the next few years but I just saw this ...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/21/tony-romos-season-will-finally-end-tuesday/

Just under two months after Tony Romo broke his collarbone, the Cowboys have finally given up on their quarterback returning this season.

Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com reports that Romo will be placed on injured reserve Tuesday. The Cowboys have gone 4-4 without Romo, including a 4-2 mark since Jason Garrett took over as interim head coach.

Romo has three years left on his contract and will be back as the team’s starter next season. While the team needs to work on its offensive line (and defense), Romo still has an exciting group of skill position talent around him.

The bigger question is whether Garrett will be back to coach him again. Romo’s backup Jon Kitna is also scheduled to be a free agent.

I was going to start a thread on this the other day. Had no idea if we had him under contract beyond 2010.

BTW Something tells me we can trust the sources on the site over PFT.

The bigger question is does Kitna want to stay.

Assuming he is under contract, of course he has no real leverage.

But if he really wanted to go try to start for someone, would Jones hold him back?
Would a reasonable trade be worked out with a team looking to start him in 2011?

I love what Kitna has done and certainly do want to see him back. But only if his heart is in it.
If he has his heart set on leaving to start somewhere else, I do think a trade would be the best thing........maybe a high 3rd or low 2nd.

1/15/2009: Signed a four-year contract extension through 2013. 2010: $2 million, 2011: $2.6 million, 2012: $3.1 million, 2013: $2.9 million, 2014: Free Agent

Kitna said he enjoys being the backup and is ready to go back to being one so I doubt he'd ask for a trade.
