Hey all,

If for some reason Romo is held out, who would everyone rather have try to win this game for us, Kitna or McGee. I am still not sure, but I think I may give McGee a chance...Why,

1. He is more athletic...admit it, the skins pass rush has improved
2. He got the most work this preseason (I know its just preseason) in an offeseason where the offseason did not exist.
3. I think he would relish the opportunity, and probably has more chemistry with the deeper depth chart receivers, which we may have to rely on

Wow. I really dont think there is even a contest here. Kitna all the way. I would like to hope McGee is ready, but I am not ready to trust him with the responsibility of beating a division opponent.

i honestly can't answer the question...

part of me says kitna...the other part says mcgee.

you've stumped the hell out of me.

Kitna, if McGee was ready, Kitna would not be here.

Really? Watching the game last week, it seemed Kitna was grateful Romo was going back in. McGee to seems he would welcome this challenge, especially at the home opener. Please dont get me wrong, I hope Romo plays, but I also want him available for the rest of the year. By the way, did you trust Romo five or so years ago when Parcells gave him the start against Carolina?

If we (Garrett) had wanted to play McGee in a regular season game, he would have done so late last season when there was nothing substantial to lose, other than the game.

Kitna would start if Romo doesn't. McCgee will be on the sideline... keeping a close eye on his helmet; just in case.

A good point about the McGee perhaps being more familiar with the bottom of the depth chart receivers, but Kitna will put the ball where it is supposed to be, hopefully the receivers will be there too. If not, then McGee's familiarity wouldn't make a difference anyway.

I'd like to see McGee in there too, but maybe in the fourth quarter of a game well in hand, or one already lost. Not as the starter in a MNF week three home opener against the division leading Commanders. :D

So you're basing your decision on 1.5 seconds of a TV shot? Do you know if Romo and Kitna talked prior to that shot? Do you know if a coach talked to him?

I think Kitna after a week of practice will be sharper than Kitna coming off the bench last week.

I'm pretty sure Kitna would welcome the challenge too, that's why he's still gutting out an NFL season at 39 years old, he wants to play.

If Romo can't go, you start Kitna with McGee as the back up. If Kitna stinks it up, you put McGee in. Like I said, if McGee was ready, Kitna would not be here, they'd have cut him and signed another young guy to develop behind McGee.

McGee may end up doing better than Kitna, I'm not saying he can't play well. But we have a 39 year vet for a reason.

Kitna knows those guys too, Romo takes the snaps with the starters, not Kitna.

He did...in the game against Philly last year. A win.

McGee, not because he's better than Kitna right now but we need to know if he can step in and be the #2 for Romo next year. He doesn't have any skins on the wall like Kitna (that Philly game doesn't count, it was basically like a preseason game with their 2nd team vs. McGee and a lot of our starters).

You gotta find out if he's legit or else you go out and find another veteran. Backup QBs are a dime a dozen in the NFL, you can always find some serviceable retread. Shoot, I even wanted Ryan Fitzpatrick over Jon Kitna 2 years ago and he's now the starter in Buffalo.

Yeah, but Romo and Kitna were both out and he had no other option. Oh, and the iggles did not care about the game and rested most of their starters and we still barely won. Other than those minor details, you almost made a good point.

This seems a little nuts to me. If he struggles behind a beat up oline without several starters playing or playing hurt we'll know he's not the guy to back up Romo a year from now?

Kitna and it's not close. However, I wouldn't have a heart attack if McGee had to go in. I like the kid but Kitna has the experience and can read the defenses much better.

Gonna have to defer to the coaches on this one. They gave McGee a lot of work in the preseason, but I don't know they would give him the reins when it counts. Most of his better plays where made against backups.

McGee. Kitna most likely will get hammered with the SKins pass rush.

With a whole week of practice as the starter I think Kitna is a no brainer. I'm not going to downgrade him playing sloppy as a midgame replacement.

OK Guys, Thanks for the responses. This was my first started thread, and I thank everyone for responding. I don't know, but I know that this season is a marathon and not a sprint, so we will need to keep Romo healthy. I guess I was looking for everyone's opinion on how McGee may give us an edge. Living here in the DC area, and listening to 106.7 the fan (the toolbags LaVaar Arrington and Chad Dukes especially) makes me just not want us to not lose this game. I would so much look forward to Tuesday morning if we could pull this off :laugh2: The crowd better be fired up for our home opener and MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!! GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!

NO MATTER WHO IS BEHIND CENTER!!!!!

One of these days, we're going to have to find out what we have in McGee.

I'm not comfortable with a 39 year old QB at the helm for long term. If Romo is out for more than a game or two, we have to let McGee see if he can guide the franchise.
