The Bears drafted Leonard Floyd in the top 10 in 2016 to be a pass rusher. He did so well that the Bears drafted two first Round picks to the Raiders for Khalil Mack. Floyd was released this year.

K'Lavon Chaisson is another linebacker hybrid pass rusher who was a one-year wonder in college. The Cowboys should take a hard pass on him.

Could be. Or he could turn out like TJ Watt. That's what makes the draft so difficult.

Brilliant, smh.

Hey guys! One time this particular human being failed, so that means this completely different human being will also fail.

I disagree. Floyd was just skinny. He looked skinny and he played skinny. He had issues against the run and any blocker that got to him gave him fits. He played weak and had to just win with his speed. Isn’t a genius either.

Chaisson played surprisingly stout against the run and played like a much bigger guy with his strength. He also is a smart, hard-working guy who does what’s asked of him and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty.

Pretty much the complete opposite of Floyd, who I couldn’t stand as a prospect for the reasons I listed above.

And for those same reasons, I really like Chaisson as a prospect. He isn’t just a super, elite talented kid. He’s a tough guy who plays smart and is very coachable.

Oh, and Chaisson is much more physically talented, too.

Just because two guys are similar in size doesn’t mean that they’re similar prospects.

Excellent write up!

Chaisson is a leader and does it all. Played in the joker role. Played in the 3-3, 4-3, rushed the passer, even went into coverage. He has untapped potential. Will be a star

If there is one thing I have learned about the draft over the years is that the people who are the loudest and most opinionated about how a player will turn out tend to be the ones you never want to listen to.

Chiasson could end up a huge bust, and then concerns are valid. Hes a raw player who didnt show up in the stat sheet as much as you would like for a first round player. With that said however if you watch the tape and dont see the high motor and athleticism to be a factor in the NFL I'm guessing you probably didnt watch the tape.

have you actually seen a picture of Chaisson? he is nothing like Floyd and can easily add 10 more LBs of muscle,on top of that he is the super smart too.

Like I said in another thread the other day, just because a prospect is the same height as Charles Haley, weighs about the same and ran the 40 in a similar time... does not mean that he’s going to get to the QB like Haley did.

There are so many intangibles that go into a player being a pro bowler... or a bust. Work ethic, desire, mental and physical toughness, football IQ, instincts, ability to process information quickly under stress, and most importantly, just straight smarts.

It does little good to judge a prospect on how another person did as a pro.

Same could be said about folks wanting a 330 human hog clogging the middle. (btw i did as well) thing is, just because hes that size doesn't mean hes going to be good like some of the others. Matter of fact, one could argue that it could be one of the rarest out of all positions on the field if a man that size is dominant. 3 down player. Just not a lot of them around. But at least we have a system in place where we are looking for players like that thank god

I agree 100%. Fat never helps anyone play football.

And those intangibles are really the hardest thing to measure. A player might outclass his opponent on the college level, get to the pros and never figure out what he needs to do to adjust and have the same kind of success. Or he may be just OK in college and find himself in the pros.

It's why I love the draft and hate it at the same time. All these players, including the UDFAs, could become something special, but most won't. And we want all the players drafted by our team to become something special, but most won't.

Man, I just depressed myself.

I still remember watching the 1990 draft with a guy who, when Dallas picked Emmitt Smith said, “Terrible pick. He’ll never make it in the Pros!”

When I asked him why he thought that he said, “He’s too slow for the NFL. He made a living in the SEC breaking tackles because he couldn’t run away from anyone. He won’t break tackles in the NFL.”

If you want to be the resident propagandist against drafting Chaisson, you'll have to do better than that.

For the life of me I don't understand why people want to find a argument for why they shouldn't take a person who can be a good fit based on....what? A Leonard Floyd comparison? I don't see the comparison but even if there was.......you can compare Chaisson to a bunch of guys. TJ Watt, Bruce Irvin.......the undersized edge rusher isn't anything new and it doesn't always bust.

Well that' say stance. If you have a argument for passing him up go ahead but saying he's the next Leonard Floyd isn't enough of a argument.

K'Lavon Chaisson is the exact same size as Demarcus Lawrence when he entered the draft out of Boise State. Think about that.....

The only concern with Chaisson for me is the prior ACL tear.

honestly if he never tears his ACL and has another year of college tape, the kids probably a top 10 pick and the cowboys have no shot at him.
I think you’re exactly right. Had he not had his development interrupted by the injury, I feel like his college production would much more closely match his elite traits.

I normally don’t like prospects who didn’t play very well in college... or I view it as a pretty serious red flag... but:
1. I feel like the injury and his leaving early are why his stats aren’t great. You’re right about him coming back for another year. He probably would have lit up the SEC.

and

2. By the latter half of his final season at LSU, he was putting up the production that he should have been. He was getting better every game as he figured things out. His last few games... man, he was a handful for teams. He was becoming what his talents say he should be.

Basically, while I don’t like high-talent, low-production prospects, I do think that in Chaisson’s case, there are reasons, starting with him leaving so early.
