Dwight Howard’s time in Los Angeles, though brief, was memorable. For all the wrong reasons.

Kobe Bryant, whose appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast will be broadcasted Monday, says he didn’t fully appreciate Shaq until he was saddled with Dwight during the 2012-13 season. (Shots fired, and all that …)

Shaq allowed Kobe to be killer momba... Just go all out attack.
Kobe knew that then. He was just a baby about it.

This is more to slight Dwight than it is true. Otherwise, Kobe is an idiot. A dummy. Which he is not.

As a Laker fan, glad they traded Shaq. We got Lamar Odom, Caron Butler. Traded Butler for Kwame and that led to a trade to Memphis later on for Pau Gasol. Worked out well for the Lakers with 2 titles, Gasol/Odom/Kobe.

Interesting you say that. It was pretty clear that the Lakers lost that trade for years, but looking back in hindsight, it actually looks like the best thing for the Lakers organization. There's no guarantee they would have continued to win championships if they kept the team intact. And Shaq only had a few more dominant years before falling off pretty hard. The Lakers took a big detour but it led to a really good team that was able to win 2 more championships. I don't think they would've won 2 if they kept Shaq, and I don't think they would have stayed relevant for so long either.

Definite conspiracy on how the Lakers acquired Gasol.

No team would make that trade ever.

Wrong. Kwame had a huge expiring contract, which Memphis wanted. They also got center Marc Gasol, who they wanted. 2 future 1st round picks. And Javaris Crittenton (pg who was drafted in the 1st rnd by the Lakers a year earlier, who became a bust).

The main thing was the expiring cap space from Kwame's contract. And as everyone knows, Marc Gasol has turned into a very good nba center.

lol, while Memphis did not go on to win a championship, they won that deal. Marc Gasol at his age, has been more valuable than Pau Gasol was during his time with the Lakers.

Even Pippen realized that living in Mike's Shadow was better than living in the spotlight he vacated.
