Honestly, if I were a professional athlete, there's no way I would get married.
I'd get a vasectomy and have a girl in every city.

Curious, why?

It's amazing how similar Jordan and Kobe are both on and off the court.

I agree - why do these athletes get married while they're playing? Derek Jeter is seemingly the only guy who "gets it".

some people think that they don't need be playing the game to be the best. some think they're gods, that they can do no wrong.

I wouldn't either. Think about if you're a pro athlete especially a big star like Kobe is you're gonna have tons of gorgeous women coming after to you. I mean it's just unrealistic to expect a guy like Kobe to say no to all those beautiful women coming after him. I'm not trying to excuse what he did because adultery is sin it's wrong, but at the same time I know if I was in his situation I would probably be unfaithful as well. This is why as a relatively young dude (only 17) I've already told myself I'm not gonna be one of those guys that gets married young at like 20 or 21 because I know full well I ain't even close to ready to make a commitment. I just wish more young people would do the same. Kobe has no one to blame, but himself though. Not getting a prenup when you're one of the biggest sport icons in America is just stupid.

I think the huge number of athletes who just wind up divorced and giving a large junk of their career earnings away is a pretty darn good indicator of why.

I mean I'm simply not really all that optomistic that very many athletes find women who are actually marrying them for love. If it's someone marrying a girl they've been with since High school or early college days, before they were anything, then maybe.

But these guys like Kobe or Jeter or high profile like that who get married after they're making large amounts of money? Nope. Sorry. I don't believe very many of those women are marrying them for anything other than the money and fame.

Yup. You are right :)

a stunning 8-carat purple diamond ring worth about $4 million.

No, this was not some last-minute apology gift; the magazine reports that Bryant had commissioned the sparkler two weeks before.

Vanessa, 21, was dazzled and Kobe, 24, beamed, reports PEOPLE. "They looked very happy together," says the jeweler, Raffi, who also designed the couple's wedding rings. "When they left, Kobe and Vanessa were holding hands."

Pretty much this.

Because it's entirely too easy to succumb to temptation when you're elevated to a royalty-like status by fans and the media. You're invincible, entitled, etc. I wish I would be able to say I would be the same guy, but with that amount of fame and fortune I would certainly be having a good time. I wouldn't use drugs or alcohol as a pro athlete either because when I'm in a training/competition mode I'm paranoid about what I put into my body, but pretty girls are certainly my main weakness.

Plus I wouldn't want to get trapped in a situation similar to this one. You wouldn't be able to trust anybody except maybe a childhood friend that was a girl that always had a crush on you even though you were lanky and weird.

I hope I would have been smart enough to keep the girl I have had for 40 years. A lot of pro athletes make it work.

I hope I would not fall prey to some skank in Chicago, or some slut in NY, or some other bar lounge beauty in Atlanta, or some model or playboy girl in LA or Miami, etc. etc.

You get the picture.

That might make you happy for an hour or two here and there, but for overall, long-term happiness, ... it's one woman for me.

I like what Roger Staubach said when asked about Joe Namath getting all the girls, ... "I like sex as much as the next guy, I just like it with the same girl."

I would not trade her for all of Kobe's money, or all of the women he has been with. The way I feel about her could never be matched by some one night stand.
