A couple of weeks ago (or so), when Jerry Jones was discussing the possible fate of Flozell Adams, didn't he also throw Kyle Kosier into the conversation as a lineman the Cowboys need to scrutinize?

Now that we know the verdict on Adams, is Kosier next in the firing line?

Based on our current depth, I'd be surprised if it happens before the draft. But if Dallas ends up with Iupati or Pouncey, maybe even Ducasse, Kosier could be headed out the door. I don't know if Dallas would consider keeping him as a backup, because Kosier might balk at that possibility.

It just seems since Jones has indicated that he wants to make some changes on the line, singled out two guys and cut one of those two, the other one shouldn't get too comfortable right now.

If we draft a top G, then I would have him compete with Kosier, and if the rookie wins, let Kosier be a backup.

This is what I would do. Kosier's salary is much more manageable than Adams' or Hamlin's was/is.

Why? This is moronic and makes no sense.

Kosier is a perfectly good starting LG.

For some idiotic reason, there is a contingent of people who never gave the guy the chance or recognized his contribution. Other than the fact he was hurt, Kosier has been just great. And in fact, when he was hurt, we saw how much we missed him.

I guess Kosier was never enough of a name or draft pedigree or massive size or tattooed enough for some of you.

It's a shame. Kosier should be accepted as a quality starter and acknowledged as same.

I'm fine with getting talent to develop for the future. But there is no reason to be kicking Kosier out the door, as some of you have wanted to do since the day he got here.

This thread is not based on having a problem with Kosier. I'm just going off what Jones said. He mentioned both players at the same time, indicating essentially that he was trying to figure out how much longer to keep them around.

Since he kicked one to the curb, I think it's sensible to wonder if he's considering doing the same to the other.

I'm not saying I want to cut Kosier. His versatility makes him a good backup even if Dallas did choose to replace him as the starter. I'm just don't know if Jones would rather cut him than demote him, if the talk is indicative of anything.

Kosier isn't going anywhere. I imagine even if we replace him we will still want to get him signed to a longer deal because of his versatility.

He is currently the best on our line at blocking in space too.

Ya, then Colombo after him and if Gurode can't get with it he's gone as well. Hell, maybe Bigg can play all 5 possitions at once?

Seriously, i think that's enough trimming util we see what we have later this summer.

You also forgot he's not in a band. ;)

I'd be surprised. He isn't killing us with his contract and is still one of our best O-linemen.

I might be wrong about Jones mentioning him. I've been searching for it ever since I started this thread, and the closest I found was speculation by Calvin Watkins because Kosier is entering the final year of his contract.

The most Jones said at that time is that Pat McQuistan could play guard but they liked him better at tackle (while I like him better on someone else's roster).

I swear I remember Jones talking about evaluating both Adams and Kosier this off-season, but I just can't find it.

He wants the players uncomfortable, but he does not want fans paranoid.

Kosier isn't going anywhere. For all those who have been bashing him since he was signed, mostly because he isn't a big name, as if that's the end all, be all for Cowboy offensive linemen, you saw what he meant to this offensive line when he was out last year ...NO rookie is going to take his spot this year..

Wasn't it Kosier who we said was the key to the O line the year he went out with the foot injury? And now we want to let him go? I know it's all talk and I'm all for competition at each position but lets not get carried away.

Am I wrong in saying that people said he was the key to the Oline the previous year? I don't know if he's the key but he seems pretty solid and I recall a lot of good run block plays from him last year. Plus he doesn't break the bank either.

yeah people said that but what they mean is his injury was the key to the line sucking mostly because of what filled in his position.

IMO there are two players on the line that are not easily upgradeable those being Andre and bigg, you would pretty much have to get mangold to upgrade Andre and there are few guards in the league as dominate at the LOS as bigg. Colombo is solid but could be improved as well as kosier but we like mark cause he is mean and nasty and brings a different element to the line and kosier has his place too he pulls really well and blocks in space and doesn't whiff like bigg does sometimes.

now the wild card here is free ill reserve judgment till the season starts or maybe after hearing how he looks in camp, but i would hope the boys wouldn't get rid of a 5 time pro bowl LT when we are supposed to be making a run at the super bowl if they were not supremely confident that free could do as good a job.

Not sure why you're bringing up Kosier.

His contract expires after this season so there is no dead-money cap hit that's going to carry into 2011 like there was with Adams and Hamlin.

Also Kosier has played to the level of his contract. Adams probably not anymore and Hamlin definitely not.

Don't know why this thread was even started.

Bingo !

While Flo is the type of player who you do not disrespect by demoting him, Kosier was a back up ( iirc ) before he came to the Cowboys, so he knows how to handle it.

And he would be a very good player to keep around as a back up just based on his experience alone, nevermind he's proven that he could start.

Cutting Kosier makes less sense than cutting Flo
