I'm glad I was dead wrong with Marc Colombo being able to return to form. I hope he can make it through a full season, but I'm so thrilled that Romo's only been sacked once so far (1st in the NFL).

Doug Free is our left tackle of the future

Kyle Kosier is the brains of the OL and one of the most athletic, if not the most athletic

Andre Gurode has never been elite but he's been steady for the past 4 years and has improved his shotgun snaps

Leonard Davis has his flaws at this stage in his career but he's still above average than most interior linemen in the NFL

Marc Colombo is the attitude and nastiness of the OL which was sorely missed in the Washington game, congrats on a successful comeback (knock on wood)

Keep it goin', boys! :starspin

All of them except Barron, of course.

:laugh2: Good call. How about kudos for Barron never seeing the field as a Dallas Cowboy ever again? :D

I'd love to see more holes in the run-blocking, but with the starters out there the pass-protection is worthy of kudos, for sure.

Please don't jinx this bunch. Two horrible games and one good one do not merit praise. I'm encouraged but let's see some consistent quality before we puff this underachieving unit any more.

I think its the biggest problem here, this team have the talent but are very inconsistent too. Sometimes play like superbowl contenders and other like dirt..

I would argue that he is elite simply because he is probably a Top 5 center in the league. Did he have a down year last year? Perhaps. But he is better than most around here give him credit for.

If they keep Romo clean for the next 3 games against the D-lines of TEN, MIN, and NYG, then I'll be a believer.

It's football, that's probably NOT going to happen but that wouldn't mean that the OL didn't play well. The other guys get paid too...

This.

They will decide our season.

Gurode has been one of the top centers in football for several years now and goe to the probowl every yr, I'd say that makes him elite.

Good post. I agree that they're worthy of praise after the Houston game. I'm interested to see how they handle the return to Minny. That may tell us a lot about this team and how far this OL can take us. The OL has been our biggest issue over the past few years and, in my opinion, they (along with injuries) will determine how far we go this season.

Only a cowboy fan would think he is not any good because he doesn't pancake his man on every play.

Did I say he was not any good? I just said I don't think he's elite (Nick Mangold, Shaun O'Hara, Jeff Saturday, etc). When you're left guard is making most if not all of the line calls, you have a center that isn't the smartest of the bunch. Gurode is definitely a top 10 player at his position, but I don't think he's one of the elite IMO.

Is it confirmed that Kosier makes the line calls or is that just heresay? I would like to see proof that it is the case, rather than just rumor. It seems to be taken as fact around here and I'd like to know why. Parcells' big issue with not starting at first Gurode was the fact that he didn't do well with line calls, but said he got MUCH better at it in 2006 when he finally won the starting job outright. I seriously doubt an NFL center can be an NFL center and make the pro bowl without making the line calls.

Whenever Romo is shouting out the Mike linebacker and setting protections, it's to Gurode. And Gurode is right there with him pointing and shouting out protections.

And do you really think there are five centers better than Gurode in the league? I doubt it. The only centers at this point that I'd take over Gurode are Mangold and Saturday. And Saturday is too small for our scheme and aging. O'Hara might be a push. But that's it. Olin Kreutz back in the day maybe, but he's pretty much done.

I mean, this guy was second team AP all-pro last year. Give him some more credit.

It isn't confirmed, but it's what everyone says when Kosier gets hurt (which has been numerous times over the past couple of years). I don't think it's a coincidence that we struggle with protection when Kosier is not in the game (see most of 2008).

I'm not dogging on Gurode as I think he's a very good player, but the Pro Bowl doesn't exactly mean a player is actually playing good football (see Roy L. Williams). Gurode must be respected around the league by players and coaches, but he hasn't been playing great football recently. Davis and Gurode had a down year in 09' and they STILL made the Pro Bowl.

There may not be 5 centers better than Gurode in the NFL, but I truly believe there are only a few elite centers in the league, giving that it's pretty difficult to find quality centers. Guards and even right tackles are somewhat not that difficult to plug in, and we all know about left tackle. Just my opinion.

My point about the pro bowls is that it is one third players and one third coaches voting. Obviously he would not have the votes from them if he did not make the calls. Who would vote for a center that didn't make his own calls? The coaches and players know.

This year our protection did not suffer when Kosier was down. The only reason it suffered was because of Alex Barron. Other than that we did not seem to miss a beat with Holland being plugged in. What we lost was Kosier's mobility and ability to pull. Other than that, all the line calls seemed to be pretty much correct. Yes, our only sack was given up by Gurode, but he just got plain beat off the line on a slant and had nothing to do with line calls. He just whiffed on a block. It happens.

In 2008 when Kosier was out, Holland was also injured, and we had Cory Freaking Procter starting. That's why our line suffered.

Like I said, Gurode may have had a down year last year, but he was still named second-team All-pro. That's a little different from the Pro Bowl.

Einstein in action.

Kosier helps on line calls, it's not like he takes over the duties from Gurode. Gurode certainly has some flaws but if you bothered watching other centers in the league he's by far one of the more talented guys. Shaun O'hara elite? Now that ones funny.
