Kyle Kosier

Kinda funny how so many people on this board are always wanting to replace Kyle Kosier. But when he goes down and the line struggles we find ourselves asking 'when will he be back'. He is a lot better guard than many here want to believe.

He does well uncovered, I'll give him that.

I'd like to see your evidence on that statement.

Watch a interview though Gurode seems kinda smart in interviews he doesnt seem like it on the field

Is it a stretch to say Kosier has been our best linemen so far?

I honestly cannot think of anyone else on the line that has been more solid then Kosier.

I'd say Free is better from the limited snaps we've seen him play, but who knows if he can be as consistent as Kosier.

When the defense shifts is when line calls become important. Whoever does it has to do it in a few seconds- recognize what has happened and make the right calls.

It is usually the center's job, isn't it?

:)

I think we need to be grooming another center because Gurode is SUPPOSED to be making line calls not Kosier. That just shows how bad our center is in the mental aspect of things.

From what I have heard Kosier is good at sizing things up fast and he calls changes to the line when the D shifts. Gurode makes the basic calls when they come up to the line. Which would explain our problems without Kosier when the D stunts and blitzes.

On the play Mario Williams came through the middle Gurode should've had that guy no matter what.

His natural instincts should have made him aware that if someone comes through that hole he has to pick them up.

Kosier can't make that call even if he is out there. Thats just after the snap stuff.

There is no excuse for Gurode right now other than he needs to pull his head out.

Whats sad is Barber missed it too :bang2: .

I swear line calls are so overrated.

These guys know their assignments as soon as they see the defense line up.

yeah I totally agree. This isn't a missed-assignments thing from what I've seen.

actually line calls to respond to defense shifts are very important. If the correct call is not made then it does not matter how good the O line blocks because someone will come in free. And the Backs have to be alert; Barber should have at least tried to slow the guy down.

Not uncommon for G's to make the line adjustments, after all, in today's 3-4's the C often has a REALLY LARGE noseguard in his face. The G has a much better view of the DL and LB's.

Normally, I'd bomb all over a thread like this, but didn't we see similar problems the last time Kosier went down? I remember that we struggled mightily without him, and that the entire line suffered. I don't think the issue is the line calls, because Gurode makes them, but it may be that we lose more than just pass protection and a guard who can get to the second level in the run game when Kyle goes out.
It's certainly odd that every time we lose Kosier, the entire line goes to crap.

Now that Kyle Kosier is hurt no 1 is making the line calls and look how much we struggled, we need 2 pick some 1 up that makes line calls cuz if he goes down agian then the O-line is screwed.

So the question is who can we pick up? Or is there some 1 on the team that can step up and do this???

I think the team will go with the person that always makes the line calls.

The guy doing before Kosier was injured and the guy doing it now.

The line has struggled with Kosier in the line up as well, so that dose not really fly when you expect it to struggle a little bit missing two starters.

Kosier does help Gurode with line calls.

People have been listening to those lunch break fools.

Those guys would rather guess and speculate then to get real info from a player or coach. Ask them why they insinuated that Kosier helps make calls and I bet none of them could give you a straight answer. From what I see Kosier is not even vocal on game day Colombo is the guy that leads that line.

CATCH17 makes a very good point at post # 29 everyone should read that.
