You said by COACHES. I'm still waiting
You may be an avid follower, but you seem to be a selective follower.
But he's not. Again, this is your logic we're following. Not mine. You're the one who suggested that a player's salary is necessarily indicative of their worth to the team. And, currently Williams makes far more than Austin, and Barber makes far more than Jones.
I meant player status as a whole. Not just how much they're making now. Doesn't mean Rat wasn't a better player than Spears when he was making less. It did mean however that, not long after, his new contract was gonna prove what our staff already thinks. Austin will eventually earn more and we'll show we value him more that way. What do you think Kosier's contract offer is going to be after the season?
I would also argue that Jerry Jones is taking a wait-and-see approach with Austin's situation, hence the lack of a new contract. Jones took precisely the same tact with Romo in 2007. Romo didn't sign a new contract until November, only after the Cowboys were certain he could maintain his level of play.
Kosier may be an average player; however, the bottom line is this: he's the most consistent player on the interior of the line, hence the deficiencies in pass protection when he's absent.
Consistently average. Gurode, over the past few years, has played like 75% great, 10 % average and 15% subpar. Bigg, maybe 60:20:20. And that was last year. In 2007, if might've been our best Olineman.
Deficiencies that are there even when he's present in the line. But somehow seem to be conveniently forgotten by fans who want to rake on Gurode and Bigg for being stupid.
Now, let's consider your "best O-line":
LT: Free LG: Holland C: Gurode RG: Davis RT:Baron
This is essentially the same line that started the game Saturday night. The results were thus:
-- Multiple sacks on Tony Romo in a half.
-- Less than a hundred yards of total offense in a half.
-- Less than 15 yards rushing for the entire game.
Dude. Seriously?
You should be honest and note what I said about Columbo. If the Columbo against the Vikings and the Raiders is who we're getting then yeah, Barron is better.
And are you seriously extrapolating their performance in that preseason game (the first in which that group has played together and in which they played against 8 and 9 man fronts without a game plan) to what they'll do over the course of a season? Since we're comparing single game performances, how about you compare that to the default line's performance in the Vikings game and see how they fare. Especially, let's see how Kosier fares.
