Good to hear from Kyle Orton:

"It just fit for what I was looking for," Orton said Tuesday while appearing on New School with Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "I had an idea of what I wanted to do kind of going into free agency, and you don't get too many chances to hook up with an organization like the Cowboys. From everybody that I had talked to throughout the whole process, they just had rave reviews of the organization.

Orton, who has started 69 games during his seven-year career, said he's at a point where he prefers to play behind Tony Romo while getting "a chance to be in the playoffs.".....

"Talking to a guy like Jon Kitna, he just had great things to say about working with Tony, and I'm just excited for it.""
Liked hear this. Good to know he knows his role and it's what he wanted.

Glad he didn't visit Cowboyszone first.

Yeah, I think he's a great fit here.

Yeah I don't think Orton ever had a problem with being a backup to a great QB. He just didn't like getting kicked to the curb for a garbage QB like Tebow or Cassell.

I was surprised when I heard of this signing. I figured he'd want to go somewhere where he could at least compete for a starting job. I'm happy about his decision, though.

He took less money from Washington to come to Dallas.
Did you mean he took less money to come to Dallas than Washington was offering?

The whole "We want Tebow" deal really soured Orton on fighting for the right to start at QB when there's another possible fan favorite on the roster, IMO. I think he's just glad to settle in on a team for a few years where things make some sense to him, declared backup or otherwise.

The guy got a raw deal or two w/ Chicago and Denver, though I understand how it all came about/played out. Glad we got him. Solid signing.

Could be true. Still, I would prefer to have a chance to start than to be a backup. Can you imagine if he went to Jacksonville or Miami, and then that team traded for Tebow?
:laugh1:

Same. Orton should be starting for some team.

There aren't 32 better QB's.

I felt like he was a total scrub when he was in Chicago but his time in Denver completely changed my opinion of him.

That is one of the main reasons why I say talks of him coming to Dallas seem totally absurd.
We have the perfect backup in Orton and he is thrilled to escape that Tebow circus ( nothing against Tebow personally). Why would we crap all over Orton before he even gets to training camp?

Why is it good that he knows his role? If he thinks that he could become the starting qb for the Cowboys would it make a difference? It's just funny that you feel the need to defend Romo even when there is no threat.

Romo better stay healthy this year because some were jumping on the Kitna bandwagon after 2010 and he was like 39 years old. If Orton were to come in and lead the Cowboys deep into the playoffs, you bet there would be a qb controversy. Remember Orton is younger than Romo.

So in that scenario you don't think some would be calling for Orton to be the starter?
Of course some idiots would. That wasn't the point of my original post. My point was, he's not going to try and cause a stir, it sounds like he's going to be a good backup that works WITH the franchise guy, and one that is happy with it.
