What do we think of his first game as a 4-3 LBer?

He definitely flashed more this game than he has all season, IMO. A tackle for a loss, some solid pressure on his blitzes.

I think he's found a home.

I saw one good play... the one he blew up in the backfield. Poor guy.. 3-4 OLB, 4-3 DE, now a 4-3 OLB... lol

I thought he was solid today.

But the run defense is a real worry. They were terrible again today.

Its probably going to be bad until Lee or Durant is back. In all probability until both are back. Sims just isn't a good player. Wilbur might be able to play SLB but he just doesn't have the experience to do it right now.

After this game, you have to think he will be at least a solid backup next year at the SAM. Better than he would have been at DE.

Its also setting up for next year that the guys getting a ton of reps because of injuries will all be top quality depth next year. Wilber, Selvie, Nevis, and Scandrick will all be quality depth - plus we will have 3 or 4 Safeties that are starting caliber next year.

On Offense the young players at RB, WR and TE will all be better with experience as well.

@clarencehilljr: Kyle Wilber appeared to have a strong game at strong side linebacker. Cowboys VP stephen jones said they may have found wilber a position

@BryanBroaddus: @bshreve34 No, we just learn to have more patience with players. Your best LB in the game Sunday was Kyle Wilber. He gets beat up worse.

@toddarcher: One guy who appeared to play OK was Kyle Wilber in first game ever at SLB. Have to watch game again to know for sure

I thought he looked decent, but its really hard to say a LB played well when the other team runs for more than 200 yards. And I don't think he's a good enough athlete to make a lot of plays in space so idk how he can be a solution there long term. Honestly, his situation right now reminds me a lot of Albright. Decent everywhere but exceptional nowhere.

True, but there's a role for guys like that. Let's hope he can keep it up.

See, I dont necessarily buy that. I don't think, in this scheme, there's use for a guy who is an average at best pass rusher or guy who can't play in coverage (tbd I guess). I din't think Albright had a role, and its possible Wilber doesn't either.

I've rarely looked at the film this year. Maybe something subconscious. But he looked solid to me.

The problem with the run game appears to be partly scheme and partly players. We are constantly shooting gaps and that's part of the scheme and I suspect partly due to the inability of those players to perform well consistently playing gap control. They are constantly being zone blocked in the direction they are shooting and are leaving their lanes. By nature shooting the gap is going to expose you like that if you don't have LBers who can cover it up; like Lee does so well. I haven't looked at the stats in a few games (well) but we were getting hurt over our LE a lot. Now it appears to be porous everywhere.

It's difficult for LBers to make plays when the OL is not being covered up.

He looked aggressive.

Most importantly he didn't look out of place.

Attribute this stat to the d-line. None of the d-lineman can hold their ground on a consistent basis versus the run. NY won the battle of the trenches (with backups) but they didn't make enough plays to win the game.

I dont know, it didn't really look to me like OL were getting to the second level all that clean.

Granted, the DL doesn't get off blocks well, but it just seemed like the LBs were a step slow the entire game.

Ernie was getting caught up in the wash and couldn't get to the holes quick enough, I agree. The real weakness, though, was Hatch and the other DT not getting a good push on running downs. It was a combination of both that made the Giants running game look dominant. Having Lee back will help.

Idk, as long as DTs hold their ground, which I think they did for the most part, they are doing their job in the run game. 34/43 doesn't matter...the DL has to keep the OL from getting to linebackers. I thought they were good enough in that regard. There were some big holes, but it looked to me like LBs should have been free enough to get to them.

The Giants attacked Sims. On the first 2 plays of the second half they were just checking to see if he lined up at the mike or will and run right at him.

We need to put Lawrence back on the practice squad and sign Chaney. Carter was pretty good when lined up in the middle.

I was very happy with the play of Kyle. He seemed to have some fire and I liked that. I think he may have found a home and with more practice could be a solid LB. What I like about a guy like him is he is a never give up high motor guy. Those players are hard to cut. I hope he takes the position and runs with it.

I have not re-watched the game yet, but I was impressed with Wilber. I was surprised that he was the choice to play the 3rd LB spot, but he appeared to do OK. They also used him on some pass rushes around the outside which was a change to what they've done in past games with the SLB.

It's difficult to determine on some plays, but I think a majority of the big runs were the fault of Sims. They desperately need to get Lee back at MLB.

He seemed more productive as a 4-3 lb.. Wasn't that what he played at WF? If so it's kind of weird he finally got to play the position he played in college. I never understood the move to DE.
