It's been that way for years now.

Great guy, btw.

But he received the largest rookie contract in NFL history when he signed with the Rams.
6 years and 78 million with 50 million guaranteed...without playing an NFL down.
The Rams got next to nothing from him for what they paid.

The NFL changed the rookie contract rules the next year.

No, not a good idea.

People want to act like the NFL surpassed MLB because of the 1994 strike, but imo a large portion of that was the salary cap. Because of it and revenue sharing, every team has a chance every year and the ones that do are typically the smartes decision makers, not the richest. No one wants to go back to the old ways except fans of teams with rich owners that do not win. Even fans of teams with rich owners that win, Seattle for example, typically prefer the status quo.

Did we sell out Hershel back in the day? NFL has always been a business and it cuts both ways. John Elway and Eli pouting and crying about not wanting to play for Baltimore/San Diego is just as disgusting.
