Lack of scheme

This has been my biggest complaint about these coaches.. That I don't enjoy their basic middle school schemes.

Our scheme is basically just our guys lining up and beating the other teams guys 1 on 1 on both side of the ball.

It works for us when Romo is healthy because he is such an elite player but the problem is that these coaches call the game the same way when we are short handed.

Jason Garrett used to call downfield passing plays over and over with a bad offensive line the same way he would with our current OL.

They just offer us nothing really from a scheme standpoint.

" Well Catch, look at all the gaudy numbers we put up.."

Yeah, because we have an elite QB.

This line up and beat your man mentality is great and all but when it doesn't work it would be SO NICE to see our coaches scheme our guys open or scheme something up to slow down a Julio Jones.

You know what our big move was to slow down Julio? Move Brandon Carr over to him and try to win that 1 on 1 matchup.

Could you imagine if we did things like that to get Dez the ball?

Did you see all of the things they were doing on obvious run downs to pull guys out of the box? Faking pitches to Julio? Bring guys around on reverses... ect...

I'm just so sick of how arrogant our mentality is and when a team stops us 1 on 1 we don't do anything to try and answer back with scheme.

My main criticism of Garrett has always been the absence of anything in his offense that helps RBs find space or WRs get open.

But look at our Stats! It's always top of the league!

The fact Dez Bryant can score 16 TD's and basically not ever be schemed into the offense just shows how incredible he is.

Romo too.

We couldn't even get T. Will 1 catch yesterday. We couldn't find a way to get him the ball 1 time. LOL.

Don't forget that beauty last TD for them. Where the offense went left and Julio went in motion to the right. Dez might score 20 times on that play alone!

What was up with the trips right the whole game and no motioning?? Looked like Peyton and Indys offense the whole day! And bringing everybody on one side and instead of using the whole field?

Don't worry though...

Romo will be back and make these coaches look good again and the supporters of all things Garrett can point to numbers again.

They suck though and offer us nothing on gameday.

This was their week to really shine and we had the arrogance to think we were just going to win our 1 on 1 battles being completely outmanned.

I look at the patriots and shake my head sometimes, they are light years ahead of Garrett in play calling .

Agree, Romo covers up a lot of warts throughout this team. I can't stand the offensive philosophy, it lacks creativity and imagination. Lets draft TE's and not use them, sign project WR's to try and replace other project WR's, etc, etc. Lets worry about a competent backup QB later.

I have never really been a fan of gameday Garrett or his offensive scheme. I do think that he is great during the week though, wish there was a way to move him up the ladder to get him off the sidelines.

I have been saying for years that we need a new scheme in here and I am still a firm believer that Romo covers up a lot of faults surrounding Dallas.

Garrett continues to try and fit square pegs in round holes rather than try something completely different.

I agree, people are complaining about not doubling Julio, but they didnt notice that they schemed him to favorable matchups every time, in our case JG is content with defenses taking Dez out of the game

I agree, and I've always felt Garrett has never been that creative. I almost had a heart - attack when we did a surprise onside kick against DC last season. Where were the bootlegs, designed rollouts, reverses, etc? Those aren't even trick plays, really.

Well when we did he let it hit him right in his chest. There's no confidence in our receivers and maybe their shouldn't be. But I do agree. It seems like most of these guys just make plays based on skill. I think now they are starting to get Dunbar and Beasley involved and of course Witten knows how to get open but goodness......people can tell me that maybe just maybe Street, Butler and Terrence aren't that good but I don't see this team using their skillset to their advantage at all.

I agree as well. It just seems like we're not a very situational coaching staff. By the way - this has nothing to do with the job Garrett has done is changing the mindset of the team and creating a mentally tough team. But I think Catch is right in that we seem so dug in in our beliefs that no matter what we can succeed.

Well no matter what doesn't include losing Tony on offense or playing shorthanded on defense. There's no shame in adjusting on the fly.

I don't think any of you guys that marvel at the Pats have watched them recently. It's a dink and dunk offense with the occasional seam route to Gronk. They just never have negative plays and very few penalties.

So you guys gave Linehan credit for last years success and now that we are missing Romo, Demarco and Dez its back to blaiming Garrett for playcalling?

Linehan did 1 thing. He brought balance to Garretts playcalling.

Our scheme still sucked last year.. The difference was we imposed our will on the ground. There was nothing special about it.

Now we are at the mercy of our coaches making adjustments because teams our loading up HEAVY on run downs and loading up HEAVY on passing downs.

We are so damn predictable right now and we're doing this at the highest level.

It would be 1 thing if we were Alabama playing Rhode Island State but we're the freaking 2-0 Dallas Cowboys playing the 2-0 Atlanata Falcons and we have the nerve to just think we're going to line up and beat them for the whole game.

Atlanta's coaches made adjustments and basically it was sell out against the Cowboys offense in obvious situations.

I agree with all of this. This is a byproduct of what Garrett is used to associating with success. Those teams he was on in the 90's would line up and maul you, but that was pre-salary cap. The coaches have done a fine job working the runnignbacks into the passing game, but the WR routes are very basic, with almost no double moves. I can't remember how many times I have screamed at the TV for a hitch and go route.

I think the philosophy is also one of the biggest issues with our defense. I know we are really banged up, so I will reserve final judgement, but to have this many toys and still run the most vanilla of cover-2 is just unacceptable. I can stomach it when it works, but when you're getting gashed in the run and pass, you have to commit to stopping one of the two with your schemes.
