Back in 1978, thirty-seven years ago, Affirmed was the last Triple Crown winner. There have only been 11 Triple Crown winners to date. That all ended today when American Pharaoh, with his 3-5 odds, dominated the 1 1/2 mile marathon track at the Belmont Stakes becoming only the twelfth horse to ever pull off such a feat.

I finally witnessed history today. It was beautiful from start to finish. American Pharaoh led the entire race. He set the pace and finished the race in Secretariat fashion.

Thoroughbreds these days are bred and trained for speed, not for marathons. That is why this was so special.

The track record at the Belmont Stakes still stands today with a blazing 2:24 that was set by Secretariat; winning by 31 links. That there is pure domination.

American Pharaoh and trainer Bob Baffert can now take their place along side the other greats before them.

That is a great horse..absolutely loved it..Wire to wire win in the longest race.

The crowd applause was really intoxicating as well.

There have been better horses than him that have failed to win it.

If we're just going by final time, he'd have finished about 15 lengths behind Secretariat.

I don't follow this stuff but that is an eye opener.

No horse has ever come within 10 lengths of Secretariat's time. Or double what AP just won the race by. If you had every horse that's ever run the Belmont on screen for a TV broadcast of the race, no other horse but Secretariat would be on the screen in the stretch run.

Keep in mind, Secretariat's jockey never cracked the whip on him for more that day. Maybe he had more.

This is like Wilt's 100 point game. I consider it possibly the most freakish performance in the history of sports.

I was only talking, or meant, pole to pole. No, American Pharaoh is no where close to the league of Big Red. Calm down.
lol Calm down, he says.

Who knew that voicing a disagreeing opinion was being worked up to the point where one would need to be calmed?

Glad to see American Pharoah pull it off.

Here is Secretariat in 1973 at the Belmont. It was one of the most dominating sports moments I've ever seen.

Not even close. He's a good horse, but this is absurd.

It is. If American Pharaoh had raced Secretariat today, Secretariat would have beaten American Pharaoh by 15 lengths, as has been mentioned. Secretariat, Man-0-War, Citation, they are in another class. Having said this, congratulations to American Pharaoh. Just because you aren't as good as Secretariat does not mean you are not great. Only 12 horses in the history of Horse Racing have ever won the Triple Crown. Well done!
