I get that we're starved for pass rush help, but Tapper's got a congenitive issue, missed most of camp, and hasn't started in a single game for us. Not sure he gives us anything that Mayowa or Irving or any of the PS guys could give us this late in the season and coming off of IR.

Collins, on the other hand, is a legit quality starter who we know can play in the one position group we really can't do without. I don't think there's any doubt which guy we ought to be activating of Collins is ready and able to play.
I wouldn't want to rush Collins back. Those toe injuries can become chronic problems.

If Collins is 110% ready, then obviously he should be the choice over Tapper, but if there is any chance that Collins is not ready, then they should just keep him on IR.

I agree that it would be difficult for Tapper to contribute as this point. It would be hard to even have him on the 46 man game-day roster. #75 (Davis) has had some decent rushes including the Thanksgiving game. He (#75) is not as good as needed but he has contributed. For whatever reason I don't think Marinelli would make Jack Crawford inactive.

ID much rather MUCH RATHER sign Collins than use a premium draft pick on offense.

My God.

Even if we didn't use a 3rd until the 2018 draft, we'd still get a whole year of having his replacement on the team without needing them to start.

IMO, spending 6 million on Leary when we'll be spending about 13 million, would be a bad investment. Also not a given that he signs for 6 million. Given our success it could be more.

If Collins could play RT, there would certainly be a stronger case for it, but I don't think the coaching staff view him as a RT, because despite having a good player in Leary, they have never tried it. They didn't even attempt to make him the swing tackle, just so we could activate him on game days.

What is the 13 million reference?

They never had Collins healthy when Leary was starting. They wouldn't have a young player like Collins practice significant snaps at both OG and OT. If Collins was starting at OG with Leary active, they would have Collins also prepare to be the swing OT.

They've never been without Free so the coaches didn't have much incentive to try Collins at RT. Leary has been injured which has also played into the issue. Leary was dealing with an injury to start this season and an injury ultimately led to Collins bumping him as the starter in 2015.

Moving Collins to RT and cutting Free would be a front office decision; whereas, when Free is on the roster, it's just a coaching decision.

sorry, I stopped like mid sentence for some reason. 13 million is what the guard in Oakland gets and what we can expect to pay Martin.

Collins and Leary were both healthy when Collins arrived and the team immediately put him at guard instead of trying him at tackle.

I'm all for moving on from Free, but I don't see how any one could argue that Collins is an option there, when he just has never been tried there, despit having an aging and declining player at RT.

If Collins could play RT, then it would be a terrific investment to cut Free and save 5M, then sign Leary for 6M per. Collins may or may not be an ideal RT candidate but I feel certain that he would be as good as Free.
I would do that in a NY minute. Don't even think about it just do it.

Guards cost a lot less than some other positions. The Cowboys have made the OL the center of their identity. Spending 6M per on Leary would not be a bad investment.

IF Collins was a tackle I think that's what would happen but I don't think they see Collins as a tackle

Are we sure that Collins was the problem to start the year in our running game?

I, like Elliot himself, put the blame on the early struggles to his lack of patience and not anything Collins did or didn't do.

Can he rush the passer? Or maybe cover a receiver?

We have guys on IR who can do that?

I like having good depth for the best OL in the league. Dak and Zeke will like that, too.

Dez looks healthy and confident tonight. More fluid, athletic and fast than I've seen him in quite some time. Feed him.
