LaFleur going back to Green Bay

Wow.

I suppose it’s comforting to know that the Cowboys aren’t the only team that rewards mediocrity…
Yeah but man he's one of the golden boys and I don't know if you get better. If he got fired or let go he'd be easily the best candidate out there.

Maybe it’s just me but I can’t seem to forget the clown suit he put the Cowboys players, coaches, and front office in the most embarrassing playoff loss in Cowboys history. I would fire Schotty today to get a chance to hire LaFleur. Although he would be offered the Miami, Atlanta, and Tennessee jobs as soon as he walked out of Packers headquarters.

Every GB fan I know (and for some reason there are plenty of them in central Scotland) feels he has underachieved, and that he holds his players back with conservative play calling.

GB didn't like any of the other candidates any better.
Essentially. Status quo was the only real decision to be made. Still thinking they made a mistake committing to him long term. I think the team went far as it could with him. They missed an opportunity here to upgrade. You take a Steve spagnoulo and make him your hc, elevate a guy to OC. This team might be like Seattle next year.

Well they probably are not to happy today. He signed an extension.

Yes, of course coaches are important but its the rosters that matters much more and the Packers GM knows how to do his job.

Barry Switzer won a SB and went to an NFC Championship game with zero nfl Head Coaching experience but as the roster got worse, so did his record.

Not really
That was true then because that team was that much better than the competition and had been schooled by Jimmy for years and had great leadership
A very very unique situation
Give Switzer any team in the NFL right now and he wouldn’t even make the playoffs

Just look at the HCs that are in the divisional round this weekend

Coaching is second to talent but still very very important IMO

For anyone else confused by the title, Lafleur’s contract was not over. GB simply didn’t want to go in 2026 with a lame duck coach

There were no reports moving on from
him before the end of his current contract was ever an option; it was just a matter of either getting an extension done or proceeding with 2026 being his final year. He was not a coaching candidate for other teams, and GB was not looking at other HC’s to replace a guy who was still their HC

Well, we certainly know a thing or two about "lame duck" coaches. :muttley:

Hence the first sentence, "Coaches are important".
