Actually this is a good move by them for the present. I don't know what he can do with the players there but he's a good guy to have around. And I couldn't care less about the Lakers. The league needs them to be good but it'll survive without that.

People say that about the Yankees in MLB too. Baseball was just fine all thru the 80's - mid 90's w/o them being good. It was actually better all those years.

marquee teams has a lot of fans and world appeal.... always brings more money to the league...

. the lakers will draw to the opponents arena... even if that team is bad...
same with the cowboys...
love em or hate em... they bring more money to the league....
can the league survive with them being bad... yes... can the league bring more money in with them being good.... absolutely...

not to mention global exposure brings more fans to the league...

There are just traditional teams that have a strong fan base. There is radio and TV that sells more when certain teams do well. Some of that is nationwide. That helps the league. But new teams can emerge as well.
