Lance Dunbar was impressive

I gotta say, I was really impressed with the way we used Lance last night and I really don't think anyone (especially the Giants) saw that coming.

We heard a lot about all the ways he could be used last year, and then proceeded to barely give him any touches.

This game, there was a definite plan on how to use him to create mismatches. It's so rare we split RB's out wide, and even rarer that we actually throw them the ball but Dunbar saw 8 pass targets and caught all 8. Impressed, even if a few of them were just dump offs out of the backfield.

It's a good thing too, cause I have no idea what Beasley was thinking.

So...he probably won't touch the ball next week?

I am one that was calling for head because he hasn't done anhthing to this point and for everyone that has, it was called for. However, it was nice to finally see what we've all been hearing about this whole time. It was really nice to see him actually do things with the ball in his hand. I'm hoping he keeps being utilized especially with losing Bryant for at least 6 weeks. We're gonna need him.

Not sure if I mentioned this yesterday but on his first catch of that final drive I thought #47 on the giants was going to rip him from behind the same way they did Beasley. I thought we were fortunate there but all our guys have to have a little more awareness when running in the open field.

That said, Dunbar more than validated his roster spot last night. I never understood how people were calling for a Gus Johnson type over him, when we've seen (albeit in limited touches) what Dunbar can do. It isn't his fault that his number wasn't called more last year.

Dunbar's been productive in both regular season and preseason when he's gotten the ball. He's had a few big plays called back for penalties, but by by and large, his issue has always been that he's a specialty player who takes a roster spot but is not used.

He killed it last night, I still don't think he's much of a runner

Maybe as a receiver, but as I stated pregame and last week the old fall down at the 20 kick returner was back! Put in Lucky for crying out loud!

I'm with you there. I thought he was a wasted man on the 53, since he hardly ever gets touches. Although I did say that RBBC would cause teams to not to be able to gameplan for just on RB and it seems we caught the Gnats off guard with him. Next time we face the Gnats, maybe it will be DM or someone else, while the Gnat coaches have been game planning for Dunbar all week :)

I think Michael replaced him as KR this week, since Lucky should see more WR time. And maybe Dunbar can get a few stretch plays.

I was worried seeing Clutts in our first few shotgun formations.

I liked what he showed when he caught those short passes and did something with them. It was really nice to see.

These running backs are going to need to put in work on the ground, and in the air, in a huge way while Dez is out.

I like him because he does not smell like stolen underwear and cologne.

Go Clean and Legal smelling Dunbar go.

I have been begging for a Darren Sproles type for a long time. And Every time Sproles was available....the organization told us we already had that guy in house...first it was Felix....then it was Dunbar. Well we know how Felix turned out...and FINALLY we got to see Dunbar used.

I have no idea what kind of route runner Dunbar is....but I was pleasantly surprised by his hands. And his run after catch ability is much better than Beasley's...so I have no issue with some of the touches Beasley is accustomed to....being directed to Dunbar. I am almost ready to say that he is too valuable to risk on special teams.

This type of player impacts the game with more than his productivity....he changes the way defenses defend you....which opens up things for other players. What we saw last night was a New England type of "running game"..with the dump off passes to the RBs.

In addition to Dunbar...we did not call a lot of long developing routes. I have often felt Romo was better suited for a West Coast style offense. Getting the ball out of his hands will help him avoid taking punishment....much like Brady, Manning etc.....do not take punishment. Romo can play at a high level for another 4 years with this approach to offense.

Agree with all of this especially the part concerning ball protection. Dunbar needs to really be more aware. Couple of plays he had the loaf of bread mentality.

He's going to be huge with Dez out.............Dallas needs him.

I won't let me love for Beasley stop me from discussing his mistakes. I don't think one night means he's a crap player and should be benched but not going to pretend he didn't have any lapses.

All the receivers looked flat last night for long stretches.

I've gotten so sick of the Dunbar hate. He hasn't gotten a chance yet. Last night was a sample of what the fastest guy on the team can do.

They finally figured out to use him. No reason he can't be a Sproles-like player in our offensive scheme.

I just love that you and Dunbar are on first name basis. Besties?
