I have a Land Rover LR3. This is actually my second Land Rover (had a '97 Discovery too)

I love the cars, but sadly I won't be getting another. (11.8mpg, is just absolutely hideous gas mileage) When it's completely icy out though, I don't sweat it one bit with my LR3. (well, maybe I sweat other drivers on the road)

Anyhow, this is another reason I love them. The can just about do anything.

A majority of people that have them don't do fun stuff like that with them. I tend to get behind Land Rovers in grocery store parking lots and they slow down to less than 1 mph to go over the road humps, which I find very annoying.

When I lived in Texas, a few of my neighbors had Range/Land Rovers. They went to and from work with them and had some beat up lesser truck for weekend hunting. A few times I had to help them get their hunting vehicles unstuck while they had this all world off roading machine sitting in their driveways.

Odd use of a vehicle with those capabilities.

It's because they don't want to scratch the Rover. They aren't cheap, but what the hell is the point. If you're going to spend BMW / Mercedes money for a Land Rover and not freaking use it. Just buy a damn BMW. (didn't say Mercedes cause their quality sucks *** these days)

Now granted I don't take mine off roading (then again I don't have much time to do that or a place) I primarily bought it for the icy winters. Especially because my wife drives in the snow with the kids. I could have gotten a Subaru, but they are fugly.

Protecting the family is top priority, so I can understand that. Having said that, I have already wished a flat tire on you because of your unprovoked attack on me in the "Disk" Golf discussion! ;)

My wife wanted one. Until she went and test drove it. Now she won't even consider owning one. Her nice way of describing it to the salesman was "utilitarian."

They sure are pricey for not being luxury vehicles.

Eh? I'm not sure what you were looking at, but it must not have been a Rover. (A Jeep maybe!)

My LR3 is all leather, has an extremely smooth ride, five of the seven seats are heated and front seats move in six directions, it has two sun roofs, it raises and lowers to the ground on it's own to get in and out of it, bi-xenon adaptive headlamps, six speed transmission, headlight wipers, seats seven, and is strong enough to pull my house off it's foundation, and that isn't even beginning to talk about what it's capable of.

Now, a Jeep is utilitarian. My LR3 is just as nice as my CLK350 and my 525i were and is even nicer than our old 2004 BMW X5. The only difference between my 525i and my LR3 is the LR3 isn't a sports sedan, it's an off-road vehicle. If you're looking at a Rover, then you can't expect it to be a sports sedan. It was never intended to be! (Though the Range Rover Sport is pretty sweet!)

She test drove the LR2 and LR4 (they don't make LR3s anymore) and is comparing them to current X3s/X5s and GLKs/Ms. The difference is night and day in terms of "luxury vehicle" quality. I wouldn't even consider stepping up to the Range Rovers. You could buy a Cayenne and a GLK for the price of a fully quipped Range Rover.

I believe these things lead every other car manufacturor in dissatisfied owners for years.

My brother in law has one. Had it about a month and was driving down the road, and the entire body moulding on the drivers door just fell off.

They seem to be junk.

Those are VERY nice vehicles. Alas a Hyundai Santa Fe is more in my price range. :)

I wouldn't mind having a Cayenne Turbo-S, but I would probably kill myself. :laugh2:

I mean it's completely nuts to have a SUV that has 550hp, tops out at 174mph and does zero to 60 in 4.7 seconds! :omg:

The $120k price tag is slightly prohibitive too. :laugh2:

His Land Rover? Sounds more like someone didn't properly attach it. Was it new? Seems likely the car was in an accident and *fixed* then sold.

He bought it new. Some sort of plastic piece on the door. I'm not overly familar with these vehicles so i don't know exactly what peice it was, but I know the thing is always in the shop for something.

Land Rover consistantly rates as one of the poorest made vehicles. But they are pretty, I'll give them that.

I know older models used to have lots of electrical problems. Our 97' Discovery 2 had it's share. I've never had an issue with my LR3.

As for plastic, the door handle grip (on the inside) is plastic which is one thing I do not like about it. It's only the grip portion too. I have no clue why they did that since everything else is freaking leather including the door covering!

He owned the discovery too, before he bought this one. They are sharp looking, no doubt about it. But like another poster said...you spend that type of money, and it better be built like a tank.

This was some big huge piece that I think is on the bottom of the door, that runs along the side of the body. Just driving down the freeway, boom, it just fell off.

Its funny, I've had some nice cars over the years, but the older I get, the less I want to pay.

The biggest piece of crap I've ever bought was my 2007 Mercedes CLK350. That damn thing always had something wrong with it. The leather gear shift cover wouldn't stay on, the engine would whine like hell, each headlight would die at least twice a year, the heated seats took forever to heat up. It took me 20 minutes to get to work and they would finally heat up once I got there. Not to mention the freaking dealership wanted $350 to change the oil. I almost killed the guy when he told me that!

I do have one good thing to say about it though, it was easily the funnest car to drive that I've owned. I used to have this U-turn on my way to work when I was working in Greenwich. I used to hit that U-turn at about 35mph. Any passengers in the car were in for a scare (and being plastered to the door) because I wouldn't tell them what was about to happen. :laugh2:

That is what my wife got last fall and absolutely LOVES it. I wish the MPG was a little better but overall that is a great car.

I had a Kia Sportage and put 125,000 miles on it over 4 years and then got a Kia Spectra and put 125,000 mile on it over 4 years. I had to get a new alternator on the Spectra at 60,000 miles and since it was under warranty it was free. Both cars were no frills. I didn't have electric door locks or electric windows, but they proved to be dependable.

Range Rovers are a huge hit with the players.

There must be 4-5 of them...of course they're the juiced up supercharged version.
