Landon Collins is an absolute stud. Probably all around the best safety I've watched since the death of Sean Taylor. Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, Devin Mccourty, Malcolm Jenkins, ect are all solid safeties don't get me wrong but they have all peaked years ago. Landon Collins is already at the level and the sky is the limit for his career.

old school thinking is if your safeties are making that many solo tackles there is something wrong on the front end

When it came time for us to pick that year, I remember there were some wanting Collins, others Preston Smith, a ton wanting Gregory, and some wanting to trade down due to who was off the board already.
Not many (or any) were calling for Byron Jones.
Still hoping he works out though.

That Gregory guy worked out well for us.

It certainly looks like the staff lets Jerry make the 2nd round pick over the past few years so he'll leave them alone in the 1st. He gets to sift through the bargain bin and find his "buried treasure" so he can show the league (and the rest of the world) how much smarter than everybody else he is.

Landon Collins is the only player in NFL History with at least 100 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 5ints, and 13 passes defended in a season.
Not that this isn't great, but holy multiple endpoints, Batman! "Collins is the only player in NFL history with...at least..." Yes, technically this is true, but there are so many things wrong with it:

1. Passes defended has only been recorded starting in 2001, so when you say "in NFL history" you mean "in the last 16 years."

2. Collins didn't have "at least" those numbers, he had exactly each of those numbers. The stat is constructed so that he can squeak in but it excludes others with as good or better seasons who just miss in one category. For instance, in 2013, Karlos Dansby had 114 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 4 ints and 19 PDs. Those are much better numbers in the aggregate than Collins's (he also had 2 returns for TDs to Collins's 1), but he doesn't make the cut for lack of one interception. Change it to 4 ints and 14 PDs and now we can say that "Karlos Dansby is the only player in NFL history with at least...". It's not informative.

The funny thing is, if we relax the criteria, Collins comes out looking perhaps even better. Let's look at the list of guys with, say, 90 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 ints and 10 passes defended:

Landon Collins 2016 (100, 4, 5, 13)
Karlos Dansby 2013 (114, 6.5, 4, 19)
Rodney Harrison 2003 (92, 3, 3, 11)
Ray Lewis 2001 (112, 3.5, 3, 10)
Brian Urlacher 2007 (92, 5, 5, 12)

Wow. Now I'm paying attention. That's a heckuva list of guys for Collins to be on, and only Dansby's season is clearly better. Especially impressive when you consider that Collins was only 22 and the other guys were all at least 26 when they did this.

Sad but true

I guess better that they didnt take him in the 1st like so many wanted
I am actually pulling for the guy and hopes he can turn his life around and contribute to the team. But there are sometimes when you just have to cut your losses and move on. I am not there yet with Gregory but getting close. Will see how a year away from football has change him if it had at all

We missed on Collins because he wasn't very good in coverage. And he honestly wasn't very good in coverage his rookie year either.

He slimmed down a bit and got a bit quicker, and seems to be thriving for the Giants now.

But it is worth noting, he basically played with an elite DL and the strongest group of corners in the league last year. Let's give it a little time before we crown him.

Seriously?

Ed Reed? Polamalu?

Earl Thomas and Eric Berry are still better safeties.

Collins is good, but c'mon man...

I can get on board with Ed Reed (Sean Taylor would have been better) but Troy P was so unbelievably overrated that's an insult to Ed Reed and others like Brian Dawkins. He will only be mentioned with the likes of others because of his 1-3 gimmick, awww plays per year ESPN plays 500 times in 10 minutes for 7 days that make you go wow. I live in PA, so I've managed to watch Troy's entire career and nobody ever wants to mention when veteran QB's like Brady/Manning would absolutely TORCH him in the playoffs year after year. Don't even get me going on not only how many games he has missed, but how many HUGE games he missed. Troy's career was solid until he played in big games and either didn't play in them or got exposed.

And nowhere did I say Landon Collins was as good as Ed Reed. I was simply making the connection that Landon Collins is already playing at a level of Earl Thomas, Berry, Jenkins, ect. Thomas/Berry could very well be playing better than Landon Collins yes, but Collins just turned 23 and doesn't play in a secondary nearly as talented as Earl Thomas has his career. This is a big year for Collins to separate himself and prove he is elite.
