Larry Allen inviting LeBlentey to come to Cowboys at probowl?

Saints | Team could franchise Bentley
Wed, 15 Feb 2006 05:59:27 -0800

Jimmy Smith, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said whether or not the team can re-sign unrestricted free agent OC LeCharles Bentley would be decided in the free agent signing period, which begins March 3, and whether the team decides to designate Bentley as a "franchise" player. Bentley said he does not want to be restricted by that designation and would prefer to see what the open market has to offer. "That's not his choice," Loomis said of the potential franchise tag.

Thought that was a nice way to keep a player happy.

At least Loomis is honest. Bentley might want to sign a long term contract with New Orleans or he will be in the same position as Abraham.

True enough.

If they franchise him, does he get paid like a top 5 tackle or not?

I forget what the answer was on that question.

Thanks in advance...

he gets paid with the top 5 Olineman, which is usually OT, so yeah, he'll be paid like an OT

Yes, they do.

New Orleans used the tag last year on Darren Howard. How'd that work out for them? Now they're going to guarantee a 1 year salary to Bentley of 7m? He might be willing to take that and if they overshoot their trade demands again they'll be stuck paying it. Gotta love the Aints.

The repercussions of franchising Bentley could be interesting. For example, the Saints are thinking of moving DE Darren Howard again because, among other reasons, they'll have so much dough tied up in their other DE's plus Bentley if they franchise him.

"Our sources would be shocked to see DE Darren Howard in a Saints uniform in 2006. Howard became such a locker-room disturbance that he was deactivated for the final four games of the season. The Saints have placed the franchise tag on Howard the past two seasons, but this year they will let him go. Will Smith, who just completed a stellar second season, will likely replace Howard in the starting lineup next season...:

WEll, if we lose Bentley, theres another center from Tennessee, not as good meaning pro bowl player, but he is steady-Justing Hartwig. Plus, if they let Darren Howard go, I think he can play in Dallas.
Remember thats the guy that the Saints wanted for Dat, plus a 2nd round draft choice I think, or whatever the rumor was. I think Darren Howard is a young version of Glover, he is 30 years old though, just a year younger than Glover, but the Saints used Howard some at DT and he did good, also he is a real good pass rusher. If you remember we used the 4-3 alittle too last year.

Who the hell is "LeBlentey"?

I was wondering the same thing?

There is a guy named Bentley who plays for the Saints who would be a nice addition to the offensive line if he where to come to Dallas.

Why would Larry Allen be able to convince him? By sheer weight of his personality? His salesmanship?

His righteous hula skills?
