Ray Brown, 43, broke in with the St. Louis Rams in 1986. (Getty Images)Ray Brown pancakes Father Time. The classy giant will break his own NFL record Saturday as the oldest lineman in a playoff game. Even more amazing, Brown's still a key cog for the 'Skins, Clark Judge says

Larry Allen can give us 5 more years and make the Pro Bowl! He graded out as our #1 lineman each week.

In addition, Larry had become a leader trying to help the young players with technique and blocking assignments.

He is a very valuable piece of our offensive line and don't forget it for ONE SECOND ZONERS IN DOUBT!

Grading out on that O line #1 doesnt mean much. LA is getting up there, and expensive for his production. On the other hand who do we have to replace him?

I agree with both points. LA still shows flashes, and while he may be able to play 5 more years I am not sure that it will be at the level he played at this year.

We gotta keep him!

He is a hall of famer and still our best O-lineman. Theres no other player on this team that I would give that kind of money too. LA is a leader on the offense and **** you to whoever says he is too old. Just look at Ray Brown for example on the Commanders 43 and still going!

We gotta keep Larry Allen until he decides to retire or if he asks to be cut or traded. I love larry!

his mobility and effectiveness is down.
Is he the biggest weakness in our Oline? No - but I'm not sure he returns at that Cap hit he's carrying.

If used better. LA can no longer pull, just able to throw out a shoulder to block his man. He probably has problems with active DT's across from him when they stunt. But I do agree, he is the best we've got, and if his peers keep putting him in the Pro Bowl, that says alot. Hopefully he will continue to embrace Parcell's workouts, (which was reported that he has), and losing 15-20 lbs. would help his knees.

There is NO WAY we get 5 more years out of Larry Allen and to suggest he was our number 1 lineman means nothing.

If we have a revamped Oline he is worth 7 mil, if we dont have a revamped line than he isnt. Theres no point in having just one or 2 good o lineman and the rest brutal kind of like this year...

If Larry Allen leaves, we will be in the same situation at guard that we were in with our tackles, probably worse. The guy is still one of the best guards in pro football. If you don't think so, just ask any number of players who have to play against him.

What did Larry Allen do this year to convince you he is worth 7 million? He can still play, but he is a far cry from the Larry Allen of old.

The real question is whether or not he, at this stage in his career is worth the $.

I say that is a legit question.

No, he is not. And I think that is the key question regarding any discussions about LA. Unfortunately, the business aspect of the game dictates whether keeping someone of his age at that cap number makes sense. I am appreciative of what LA has done for the Cowboys, but he is not the same player he was. Remember, this cap number represents his last contract inwhich he was paid as a left tackle. He is not at that level anymore. But the problem is who do you replace him with?

during the season someone posted a stat that showed avg yards per carry rushing behind each offensive lineman, not really sure how they figured that one out as far as isolating which lineman was responsible for good/bad run blocking on each play.....and im not sure how relaible the info was but Larry had the worst figures of all our lineman for run blocking, tucker had the best.

I was not overly impressed with allen this year, we all know that changes will be made on the oline and at this point nothing will suprise me, i dont think anyone is guaranteed a starting spot except Flo.

I agree with ya sarge. Hes not a bad player hes just being over paid at this point. I dont see him re-working his deal either. I kind of wonder if he will have to be begged to play again this season.

I am very fond of Larry Allen...I think he may have been the most intimidating Cowboy ever for a brief while...But his cap hit is far too large for the production and his play while it has leveled out some is still not up to standards...

I refuse to live in the "now". Is LA going to be better than a good rookie we replace him with? What about 2 years from now, when it will matter. We need to put together a young OL and let them jell.
Rivera and LA should both be gone.

What we need is somebody who can draft OL.

its a must for LA to restructure his contract or Jerry will be forced to move him 7 mil is just way to much. What about restructuring his contract and moving him to Right side. Then we could spend the money on young stud that could be here for the future on the leftside.. IE Seatle: Walter Jones and Steve Hutchison

Adams, Rivera, A Johnson, Flo, Free Agent
Back ups: Pettiti, Guraode, Tucker, 2006 Draft Choice

Possible 2006 Free Agents:

Anthony Clement UFA 49ers
Barrett Brooks UFA Steelers
Barry Stokes UFA Falcons
Bob Whitfield UFA Giants
Chad Slaughter UFA Raiders
Courtney Van Buren RFA Chargers
Ephraim Salaam UFA Jaguars
Ethan Brooks UFA Cowboys
***Jeff Backus UFA Lions ****
John St. Clair UFA Bears
***Jon Runyan UFA Eagles ***
Jordan Black RFA Chiefs
***Kevin Barry UFA Packers***
Kevin Shaffer UFA Falcons
***L.J. Shelton UFA Browns***

Right side, left side...it doesn't matter all that much at the guard position. That's a lotta $ they're throwing at LA for the calibre of play they're getting out of him.

I love LA as much as the next guy, but let's be real here.
