Wow!!! I thought he's been stinking up the joint... I guess it's Al Johnson that's been getting whooped play after play.

This is by far his best year in 5 years. I feel he was totally useless before.
I have to say Bledsoe and even Larry Allen have much exceeded my expectations this year. Curly

While I agree that he is playing well, he completely whiffed on his block on the goal line reverse. Terry Glenn did a great job getting into the end zone with no help from LA.

did you notice in the game that the instant johnson was pulled for gurode, the OL play immediately improved.

AJ absolutely got smoked a couple times in the first quarter. he was getting manhandled...

I do agree that the Line tends to rise up when Gurode is in, but he eventually (as mentioned above) screws it up somehow. Also worth noting, I think Al played the entire 2nd half yesterday and the OL played pretty well.

I think lost in all of this is that the KC D is not even close to what we faced last week in NY. BP was able to gameplan to exploit a suspect KC defense. We're going to have a tougher time "hiding" the OL problems against Washingon and Carolina.

Gurode has the physical tools but doesnt seem to be able to make the reads and line calls.

I do agree that the Line tends to rise up when Gurode is in, but he eventually (as mentioned above) screws it up somehow. Also worth noting, I think Al played the entire 2nd half yesterday and the OL played pretty well.

Is that really the case though? Gurode was in for the flea flicker but it was all the running before hand that set that up.

Don't forget that Gurode had a penalty on that drive that cost us 26 yards

Ok Allen did not play that well in the 1st 2 series I recorded the game and have started tracking the linemen on every play we ran (not special team plays) I just started last night it is long tedious process I am taking indepth notes I completed the 1st two series and started on the 3rd series of O play

In that time Larry Allen wiffed on blocks as a pulling guard I mean a complete wiff; also in that time fram Larry and Al where double teaming Larry was the main culprit that allowed #93 to split the double team he got him self out of poistion and on the wrong shoulder that killed a running play for 1 yard if he had stayed in front like he was suppose to JJ could have ripped a long run.

I will give my full anlaysis later this week it is a lot of work even with Tivo because I have to replay over and over and slow it down to see where the break downs are coming from.

Anyways Allen is doing well in the passing game but what I have seen but his run game arrg Tucker is the better run blocker on the Left side

The only time I can remember noticing LA was on Terry Glenn's TD run. Big Larry was out there in the space Terry was headed for, and he didn't block anybody. The guy has very little agility - and I'm talking compared to the average NFL OG. He is a lot like a tank compared to a car - very powerful but not too good at moving around.

...I'm happy some of the forum noticed this also. While Allen is still overpowering on the line at times he is now becoming very suspect on plays where he is required to pull or block in space.

He doesn't have the nimble feet that he was once noted for. Remember his rookie season when he ran down a guy from behind? The play I can see in my mind, but the runner I can't remember.

As for the Glenn TD Allen did not only completely whiff on the tackler, he gave one of the most embarassing arm waves at the guy as he bent his waist towards him. Anyone who has ever been on a sports team has heard the coach yell, "Move your feet!!!" That whiff was plain laziness. He pulled to the lines left then stood around looking for someone to block instead of attacking the nearest man.

He's still an asset to this team, but we need to address his replacement sooner than later if we don't want to get caught with our pants down at that position.

Defenders also run away from Allen in space. That helps some. It causes them to have bad angles on the runners. The first guy ran too far inside to avoid Allen and that allowed Glenn just enough room to get the first down. The second guy ran too far into the end zone to get around Allen standing there and that allowed Glenn to cut it upfield and score. It wasn't pretty text book blocking, but it actually turned out to be effective.

He certainly isn't what he was, but he can have his moment or at least cause defenders to not do their jobs well.
