Las Vegas is no stranger to pro teams. the city had never had a permanent "4 major league" team ever, the Utah Jazz played a few games in Vegas in the mid 80s(remember Kareem setting the all-time scoring record in 1984, that took place at T&M Center). and the As played some regular season games as Cashman park early part of the 1996 baseball season.

Vegas got its start when they were awarded an NASL team in 1977 which lasted a season. the Quicksilvers had Eusebio(portigual soccer legend) on their lineup.

lets not forget the city had a failed football franchise. im not talking about the XFLs outlaws, they were ok. but im talking about the CFLs Posse. the team had their training camp setup at a hotel parking lot which was smaller that the field. the team was a disaster due to its low attendance, the final home game was played in Edmonton.

you think when it comes to Vegas, its nothing but a gambling town, tourists only come to gamble, watch boxing, singers like wayne newton, and so on. there is more to vegas than just those........ traditional things.
Vegas is ready to take a gamble again at pro sports....................

With respect to the NFL, I'd rather see the league put an expansion team in Vegas than London.

First of all, I don't consider a town a "major sports town" if they get a soccer team or some other minor league franchise. I don't even consider them a major sports town if they get the NHL (sorry Columbus). In order to be a major sports town, you need either MLB, NFL or NBA - and that's just for starters.

Second of all, the timing isn't exactly right. This is a city is coming out of a major economic downturn. Things are better, much like the rest of the nation, but probably not quite right to do a billion dollar investment.

If LA can't support a team, don't think Vegas can. Way too many tourists and transplants to keep up attendance over the long haul IMO.

I think Vegas would be a great pro sports town.

The base for the city is rapidly increasing. The population grew 35% between 2000 and 2010.

LA's problem is not people but everything else.
Too much traffic, too costly to run a team there, too many distractions, too much competition.

It wasn't quite that much. It was 22%, which is nothing to scoff at. That is a huge growth that will probably continue for some time. Well, at least until they run out of water.

That's just the city of Vegas and not Clark County which is Vegas plus surrounding burbs where the actual people live:)
Census are never wholly accurate and are always going to be under.
This is the governmental estimate considered to be more realistic... and the data used by businesses and such as they determine population.

But even with official census the County shows 42% growth for the same period.
