http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nfl/players/full/15119.png&w=350&h=254 Matt Johnson. the most mysterious Cowboy to "ever" it seems to be on a cowboys roster.

it's time...no more "red shirts" no more "Will sees"...lets get it on or move on. agree?

It took me a few seconds to even remember his name so, if it took me digging a little most of the fan base don't know he's even on the roster. of-course there's always "google search"..

nice "Ghosts" are real? i say that with respect. i hate the kid has had that much trouble making it on the field.

Has he even been on the field? IIRC, he's never played a single down, unsure about pre-season.

I believe played about nine snaps in the Hall of Fame game against the Dolphins last season.

I think he lasted almost a half against Miami last preseason before suffering a "stress reaction" or something like that in his foot. Then it was his hamstrings again. The Cowboys clearly see something in this guy, and I think they fear cutting him and watching him go someplace else, get healthy, and start. That just sounds like something that would happen to Dallas.....

When is the last time that happened?

I remember in the Miami game he got hurt after a pretty nice tackle. I don't see what it hurts to keep him on the roster for his last chance.

One thing for; no matter how frustrated some of us fans get, it's not in same stratosphere with how bad this is on him.

I mean, he's really just another player for most of us.

For him, this is a life-long dream that just might slip away. It has to be total torture. You know he's trying every trick in book to avoid this stuff from happening but still being able top may aggressively. He's certainly not getting injured on purpose.

True, and i'm on the same page here, but how does this happen to this kid?...

Let's put the "NFL" is too much stress on some folks.

1. too fast?

2. too hard?

3. The "top talent" is too much to ask these players to endure? after all...we have been from all levels starting at "pop warner" through middle school through High School... through College... and now all of a sudden...........the train stops!

They find themselves finally the "small fish" in the "large bowl" for the final time?

wow.. crazy. life is just cruel that way sometimes....

The thing is, this guy measures up physically to almost all of the top safeties. He actually measures up better than most NFL starters.
Decent size, good speed, good vertical, good 3 cone, good strength, etc.
The coaches love his instincts and football smarts.
The said he had the 3rd best explosive measurables in the entire draft but was injured and came from a small school.

But he did miss half of his senior year in college due to injury.

He sure appears to have a NFL body and the from what I've heard he does not at all feel out of his league.
But who knows, maybe his body won't hold up.
It's sux for him for sure.

very true and good stuff..want to bet a 10 year stent at this point with out injury? Some guys are just at their peak when they get their shot. If i'm wrong i will wear it ..i'm not afraid...i would love to be wrong. i beg to be wrong.

Sadly, I agree.

I look at him like this; if he could stay healthy, I feel real comfortable saying that he could have a decent NFL career.
But I'm not at all confident that he will stay healthy.
And like you, I hope I'm wrong about the second part and right about the first.

I think they don't want to cut him because the don't want admit they wasted another draft pick on a project. It's about ego

I don't think ego has anything to do with it. Like Idgit said, the coaches think he can play. I do too from the little that I have seen. The question is whether he can stay healthy. We have a good crop of young safety, so he won't have much room for error. I'm really rooting for him.

Danny Coale, taken a pick below Johnson in that same draft didn't even make it out if camp. Johnson's on the roster because they believe he can play.

I'm sure they are telling themselves that, but the dude hasn't played a meaningful snap. I Don't believe it. We reached for him/drafted a project/another niche player, like Stanbeck, AOA, Beullar and Hitchens this year. Ultimately Jerry is trying to save face.

Kid gets cut before the season starts.
