Last Word On Week Five Loss

After watching this game for the fourth time ( I know I'm a glutin for punishment) I have a few observations.

1) I figure I must have seen the 40 yard fleaflicker to Brown about 16 times with all the replays. Each time it gets worse, Both Watkins and Williams absolutely positively should have made a play on that ball. All 6-5 Watkins had to do was raise his fricken arms. And Roy's last second ajustment to the ball has me convinced he must have lost it in the lights. But it goes down as a great call and a great play for McNabb, when you can clearly see neither Watkins nor Williams were fooled on the play and the pass probably shouldn't have been thrown.

2)The Baskin 87 yard catch is also killin me! Each time I see it he looks slower and more like a 3rd string receiver. I guarantee you this guy has no future.
3) Why-T-F can't we do some creative blitzing. :bang2:
What's wrong with stunting Ware up the middle. Perhaps a slightly delayed blitz by Ware after James blitzes from that side to take up any extra blocker.
Maybe just maybe we might give these excellent athletes we have ( Ware Canty Hatcher) a better chance to get to the QB if we can create a little indicision and maybe even confusion amongst the blockers they face.
GOD FORBID MAYBE WE EVEN GET ONE OF THEM A FREE RUN TO THE QB!

4) What T-F happened to our pass protection Sunday?
One constant during the 3 Campo years was our inability to handle J. Johnson's pass rush/blitz scheme. You could count on it as surely as you could a loss. Hence 0-6!
One constant during the Parcels era, starting with our first matchup with them in 2003, was our ability to pick up their blitz. Hence 3-3!
This has been killing me all week. I can handle Bledsoe missing a few passes and taking a few bad sacks, I can even handle the Watkins miscues.
BUT I CAN'T HANDLE THIS! WHY WHY WHY! :bang2: It cost us the game, no questions asked.
If we correct this problem for the rematch, I GUARANTEE A WIN.

- Glenn had everoyne beat on the 3rd to last play of the game.

If Bledsoe had gotten it further it would of been a TD and game over

That's funny, I was gonna say the same thing about Pat Watkins as a safety. At least Baskett didn't play like a rookie.

Oh I hear ya there. I saw a replay from a very high angel. Must have been the coaches film. When Baskett made his first move that Watkins bit on, he was still a good seven yards behind him. I mean seven yards when he stopped realizing that Baskett was running a go route. I couldn't believe how long it took Watkins to change direction! I BELIEVE OUR FEARS OF A PLAYER WITH HIS BUILD HAVING TROUBLE CHANGING DIRECTIONS ARE WELL FOUNDED!

First of all, you are a "glutton" for punishment.

I understand your concern with Patrick Watkins however let us remember that Watkins is a rookie and he should get a lot better for next season if he continues to play. I am continually concerned that Roy Williams has no clue what his assignment is in coverage and he doesn't have the 'rookie' excuse. The Flea Flicker didn't bother me as much as the play where L.J. Smith ran right past a dumbfounded Roy Williams. In the first couple of games Williams looked a lot better in coverage but over the past two weeks he seems to be regressing. More and more it seems like teams have that "Roy Williams" play that they pull out in the fourth quarter when they really need a score.

You also ask why we can't do any creative blitzing. I've asked myself this question since we started running the 3-4 defense. The 3-4 is predicated on unpredictability and creativity. These are two qualities that Mike Zimmer cannot replicate. We always leave the flat open. We always get beat on third down with slant plays. Every place else that I see the 3-4 defense being deployed the defense either causes a lot of turnovers or gets a lot of sacks simply because it is a chaotic and aggressive because it gives a DC a lot of options when it comes to blitzing, covering underneath zones and stopping the run game. I wonder what our 3-4 would look like if we put our players in Wade Phillips or Dick Lebeau's hands. I really get upset when I think about this because we have guys that are on the cusp of stardom on defense and we have a jackass like Mike Zimmer holding them back.

Finally, the pass protection thing. You would think we would have enough tape on them by now that we would have an answer for all their tricks and tendancies but we obviously don't. All of this falls on the head of Bill Parcells by whom I think the game has passed. He always seems to try to run the ball and win every game 16-13. If you look at our team we only seem to attack when we are behind and we don't press our advantage when we are ahead.

I refuse to fool myself anymore: we are a decent team now but, this is as far as Bill Parcells is capable of taking us at this stage in his career. We have a decent roster of talent but I think we have one of the worst coaching staffs in the league. So I think we may mess around and make the playoffs but I don't expect much more.

Sounds like they may not be as good as they seem, and we are mayber better than we played-----make a play here or there and we win.
