Last year, I felt the same way.

When the Cowboys barely squeaked out a win in San Francisco, I was left thinking wow, we just almost lost to the freaking 49ers. They had a brand new coach and at that particular moment I know there were a lot of us wondering how we almost lost to Alex Smiths team. Well, we all saw what the 49ers did last year. Could we be perhaps overreacting to a loss to a team that could end up being a surprise contender?

I know the team looked like crap Sunday. I watched the same game as everyone else. What I saw was a team that stumbled over its own feet and the other team held them pinned to the ground. You can't let Seattle get up on you; they run the ball really well and are built to drain the clock and play defense and ball control.

If Felix doesn't fumble that ball or that punt isn't blocked, you see a completely different game. Guaranteed. Two freak turnovers for a quick 10 points lost the game. We were not fundamentally inept like some of you think. We got pinned down by a ball control team quick and couldn't recover; and when both if our starting safeties went down, Seattle could throw as well.

Just remember, the freaking Giants were ready to blow their team up and fire/cut everyone last year around midseason. Look what happened.

Better we lose this kind of game vs an inter conference opponent than to a division team. Let's get the crap out of the system early and peak late.

I did that too lol. I remember being so mad we barley beat them that i counted that as a loss lol. then they turned out to be really good. Not this year but i can see us being a contender the next 3 years if we change some things and romo doesnt walk.

they lost to skeleton and kolb the week before.

I don't think at this juncture, after so many years of fielding a team that is mediocre, even after being 13-3 once, how excuses can still be made for performances like the one we saw Sunday.

Now there is a possibility they win the next two games and this is merely a speed bump in the season.

But looking at the game a second time, I cannot help but feel this team got slapped in the mouth and took it.

I will hold out hope.

But if we go into the bye at 2-2 or even worse 1-3, then this season will be again a painful one to watch.

Until this team puts 5 or 6 good performances in a row together, I'm going to keep my emotions and hopes under wraps. We get so excited after the Giants win, only to crash and burn 10 days later.

This team needs to string good games together. They don't necessarily have to win all of them, but they can't stink it up like they did last week. After all, to win a Super Bowl you need to string together several strong performances. If you can't do that in the regular season, you certainly won't do it in the playoffs assuming you even get there.

So what I'm looking for is not a good performance against Tampa in an of itself, but a string of solid performances. Hopefully this team has it in them to do it. It's only 2 games, but so far there is no evidence of the consistency required to succeed in this league.

Uh, we BEAT the niners last year in a game that actually showed the team having heart, yet we got SMOKED to this team. Pretty big difference if you ask me.

Correct. Apples and oranges. The team played desperate against the 49ers. Romo mentioned that he didn't want to start the year 0-2.

None of that desperation was evident against the Seahawks.

Yeah, I thought that was a great effort last year - even before we knew how good SF would turn out to be. Last week, not so much. It really reminded me of our no-shows against the Eagles last year.

That exactly shows the mental toughness of the team , on road 0-10 down , ok , go through the motions and fight another day , kind . Shucks..........

You're right... I long for the days when Aikman or Staubach and company just keep coming back when they were down... 1994 NFC Championship against the 49ers. Down 28-0 before they could blink an eye. Battled back and almost pulled it off. Aikman says it was his proudest moment for his team.

This team? Well, they have a lot to prove if they are anything like the ghosts of the Cowboys past...

So you want to see the team stack good days on top of good days. That sounds like a process.

Jason, is that you?

I guess I agree with what Garrett is trying to accomplish. We all do.

But clearly the team is not there yet. And as a result, we've been put on this roller coaster 2 weeks into the season. I've just decided to get off the roller coaster. I'm still on the band wagon though. It's just that a 40-0 win over Tampa won't get me too excited. It's going to take a significant run of good performances before I start to think playoffs, Super Bowl, etc.

One win won't do it.

I doubt Seattle will end up going 13-3 like SF. The 49ers were coming off a win on opening day last season and Seattle was coming off a loss on opening day this season. Only time will tell how good Seattle is but I doubt they beat anyone as bad as they beat the Cowboys last week. That was a very troubling performance by the Cowboys. Losing to a 3rd round rookie QB is a lot worse than struggling against Alex Smith. I felt better about the team after week 2 last season than I do now.

You make very good points. It is still a little early to call it a season. But even in the Giants game there were take aways that weren't all that encouraging. Many have already forgotten the 1st half the Cowboys had against the Giants. That is two slow starts for the Cowboys offense in a row. One more, and you can call it a trend.

I'll say it again - the Cards have won their last 9 out of 11 games. They are NO WHERE NEAR as bad as people think they are. If they had a QB, they would be talked about a lot more than they are - which is.....well.....not at all.

Bob Sturm wrote an interesting piece yesterday about how Jason after only losing by a touchdown at halftime, entered the panic mode and abandoned the run for a pass driven offence. When the Cowboys run less than 25 times their record is 1-16 since 2008.

What is worrying is this lack of game management when the team is down in the scoreboard.
