We all know that this is the team's last year in Texas Stadium, but I think there are several players spending their last season playing for The Cowboys as well.

Here's my list of 'name' guys I don't expect will see the new stadium in 2009:

OT Marc Colombo - Too many big-ticket contracts coming up to pay Colombo as well. He's played well, but I think the team turns to one of the younger guys to step up at RT.

WR Terry Glenn - Assuming that he makes the roster this year, there's little chance he's back for 2009. Degenrative conditions are just that - degenerative. His knees won't get better with time.

WR Miles Austin - I think he'll get beaten out this year. I think he's gotten all the chances to develop that he's going to get. And with so many kick returners being added, he no longer has that role keepig him around.

CB Anthony Henry - Too much money, too many injuries. Unless Henry has a stellar, healthy 2008, it will be his last in a Cowboy uniform. The team has made a serious investment at the cornerback position and can't afford to keep everyone. Newman gets the long-term contract.

OLB Greg Ellis - His paranoia finally becomes reality as he's shown the door. Spencer will show himself worthy of starting and finances will show that you can't keep everyone. I think this year's draft tips the Cowboys' hand that they're looking for younger and cheaper at OLB.

DE Marcus Spears - Disappointing first round draft choice never developed into what the Cowboys had hoped. And you can get 'average' for less than what Spears is making.

QB Brad Johnson - End of the road for the aging veteran. If Johnson is forced into action in 2008, I think the Cowboys are in trouble. Father Time has seriously eroded his skills.

On the Bubble - Here are some guys the jury is out on for 2009:

LB Bobby Carpenter - He gets another chance because the cost of moving him was too high. Steps into the perfect role behind Zach Thomas. He gets it or he gets going.

SS Roy Williams - Has struggled the past several seasons in coverage and is not the dominant force he once was. His career is at a crossroads and he has one year to get it together in Dallas.

DE Chris Canty - Strictly a numbers issue. The Cowboys would like to keep him around - at the right price. With so many key players' contracts coming due, the Cowboys may not be able to keep everyone. If Canty's asking price gets too high, he may not stick in Dallas.

And the one I hate typing:

RB Marion Barber - I'm hopeful that he and the Cowboys work out a long-term deal but that's far from certain. Several factors are working against it - from his asking price, to the drafting of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice, to the current lifespan of an NFL running back. Teams are cautious of investing huge dollars in such a physically-demanding position and few running backs run with the physical style that Barber does.

Anyone else hane some 'names' to add to the list or disagree with those I've mentioned?

I think you're probably right on about most of those guys. I think we might try to keep Spears and Ellis though, as long as the contracts are reasonable. Spears hasn't been a superstar, but it's hard to be a superstar playing end in the 3-4, he's stout against the run, which is the most important thing.

while i would like to keep both, i dont think barber is worth 30 mill and is easier to replace. to me canty played very well last year. so i would give canty his money and say bye bye to barber if felix and choice perform.

I would put Marc "on the bubble" list. It will depend on whether the young guys show promise this offseason. If the coaches think that they are not showing enough, Marc will be brought back somehow.

Barber may be easier to replace than Canty. Not saying that I would want that to happen but with Choice and Jones on the roster, who knows. Plus we could always draft for the position next year. Add that to the fact that Barber could be franchised and we could get a 1st and 3rd with the expectation that he signs elsewhere.

Canty and Barber will get new deals. Ellis and Carpenter aren't that expensive and should at least play out their current deals. Henry mave move to safety after this year or may be gone. Spears will be traded or simply not re-signed once his deal is up

I really think that Glenn isn't going to make the team this year - regardless of whether we acquire another vet WR or not.

Pretty good picks. I agree on most. I think Barber will stay, tho. Miles Austin has shown he is one dimensional, although very good at kick-offs, he couldn't catch crap with both pockets full. Bye, Miles.

I hope you are wrong, becuase seven of those guys were starters in 2007 and will probably be in 2008.

Keep in mind-'10 will be an uncapped year.

Pt being that while I agree with most of the list, I believe Jerry will find a way to keep Canty here long-term, especially him being a young player.

I think if JJ had any doubt about getting a deal done with Barber he would have drafted Mendenhall.

'10 being an uncapped year is not a foregone conclusion. It's no secret that the owners are leaning towards opting out of the CURRENT CBA. If that happens there is a good chance that the NFLPA will stage a strike. In order to maintain business as usual without a work stoppage (that is bad for everyone) a new CBA will have to be drawn up.

You can bet dollars to doughnuts that the NFLPA will not agree to a CBA that doesn't have a salary cap in place (mainly because the salary cap structure puts mandatory minimum values on veteran contracts). So while everyone has visions of Jerry Jones outspending the competition for a Yankees type roster, you might want to put your party plans for the opening day of '10 Free agency on hold.

Barber isn't going anywhere. Just because people are in love with Choice, all of a sudden he's equal the Barber. Apparently a lot of you have forgot what we have had going on in the ground game before we discovered Barber, which is almost nothing. He is easily worth 30 mil.

Gene Washington has said on at least two occasions that once the cap is gone, there will never be another one. So I don't see the NFLPA insisting on a cap in the new contract.

IIRC the cap was insisted upon by the owners when the players won free agency. It was the owners' way of keeping their expenses in check. I could be wrong, but that's the way I remember it.

I may stand corrected. Maybe The NFLPA had vet minimums inserted into the CBA as a stipulation to agree to the salary cap. I just remember vet minimums being a sticking point. Thanks for the correction Leon.

I'm sad to say that I've never made it to Texas Stadium.
