Something that was mentioned on the NFL network as I was driving from Missouri down to Dallas for a nice long weekend. The new CBA had provisions in it to change maximum contract lengths based on rounds. Teams have been signing their 2nd rounders to 5 and even 6 year deals in recent years so they can hold their top draft picks as long as possible. The new CBA changed it to where the longest contract a 2nd rounder can sign is a 4 year deal. So now if you are the Titans or Jets sitting with a high 2nd rounder, it is in your best interest to move up into the first round so you can still sign the guy for a longer period of time.
This will have to have an adjustment of the draft value sheet. Maybe not much from a player perspective, but from a cost of the player perspective, allowing a guy that is for all purposes a first round pick that slid two or three slots to hit free agency a year or two earlier doesn't make good business sense.
A trade down may not be easy, but if we could trade down into the mid 20s, I bet we could get great value to trade down to the top of the 2nd. And if not... take the pick.
