* Looking at the schedules for teams in the NFC East... We have by far the easiest remaining schedule.

* The Giants barely beat us, and they barely beat the Commanders, and have proceeded to thrash 3 horrible teams. Yeah its about the W, but lets not crown their *** just yet, right Coach Green?

* The reason why our defense doesn't have more turnovers/sacks is because they have been forced to play on the balls of their feet all seasons so far. You get turnovers and sacks when you force teams to start pressing (early), and you do that by getting to a good lead (early). You score 14 points on a team in the first quarter, and they start pressing. They give up the run, which leads to sacks, interceptions, and mistakes... we know this too well. Kansas City gave up on the run but were always in the game because of our mistakes.

* This team is about to break out. The return of Felix Jones and Marion barber getting healthy. Hopefully he bye week lets Garrett see why Bennett isn't more involved. Hopefully he looks to use Felix more in the passing game as well. The defense has obviously been tired. They play lights out and are very tired by the end of the game. People want to say they have no heart, but its because they play too hard for most of the game. That defense gave up 10 unforced points last game... and for the most part this season haven't give up many unforced points.

My definition of an unforced touchdown, is a touchdown on a drive that began on opponents side of the ball. My theory is that if we play smart consistent football we have the combination on offense and defense and special teams to make us the best team in the nfl.

Game 1 - Tampa bay
3 touchdowns from our territory

Game 2 - New york
1 touchdown

Game 3 - Carolina
1 touchdown

Game 4 - Denver
1 touchdown

Game 5 - Kansas City
1 touchdown

* If we play smarter more consistent football we have enough talent to beat any team in the nfl. We gave the game to the giants. We had 4 turnovers and STILL had to give them the game.

Since the game opener, we've only allowed 1 touchdown per game on possessions that start on opposing teams side of the 50.

It really goes back to consistency on offense. We can't turn the ball over, and we can't have 3 and out in the 20. We also can't have special teams gaffes.

Another note on us not being able to put Denver away.

That Tony Romo fumble on the 12 yard line basically gave the game way.

It only seems like SOMETHING has to go wrong in order for us to lose a game. That might sound stupid... but come on... we just have to play smarter football. Not only is that a turnover

Look at what happened in order for them to get points here

1st and 10 at DEN 20 C.Buckhalter up the middle to DEN 25 for 5 yards (G.Sensabaugh). PENALTY on DAL-J.Ratliff, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at DEN 25.
1st and 10 at DEN 30 (Shotgun) K.Orton pass short left to J.Gaffney to DEN 38 for 8 yards (M.Jenkins).
End of Period

2nd and 2 at DEN 38 C.Buckhalter right guard to DEN 41 for 3 yards (B.James).
DRIVE TOTALS: DAL 10, DEN 0, 6 plays, 15 yards, 2:23 elapsed

Denver Broncos at 0:43 DAL DEN
1st and 10 at DEN 41 K.Orton pass incomplete deep middle to B.Marshall (M.Jenkins).
2nd and 10 at DEN 41 C.Buckhalter left guard to DEN 47 for 6 yards (I.Olshansky, B.James).
3rd and 4 at DEN 47 (Shotgun) K.Orton sacked at DEN 40 for -7 yards (S.Bowen).
4th and 11 at DEN 40 B.Kern punts 53 yards to DAL 7, Center-L.Paxton. P.Crayton pushed ob at DAL 12 for 5 yards (J.Barrett).

1st and 10 at DAL 12 T.Romo pass short right to P.Crayton to DAL 21 for 9 yards (C.Bailey).
2nd and 1 at DAL 21 T.Choice up the middle to DAL 21 for no gain (K.Peterson, A.Davis).
3rd and 1 at DAL 21 M.Barber left guard to DAL 25 for 4 yards (D.Williams).
1st and 10 at DAL 25 T.Romo pass incomplete short right to R.Williams (C.Bailey).
2nd and 10 at DAL 25 T.Choice up the middle to DAL 26 for 1 yard (D.Williams, R.Fields). PENALTY on DAL-A.Gurode, Tripping, 10 yards, enforced at DAL 25 - No Play.
2nd and 20 at DAL 15 (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short left to M.Austin to DAL 21 for 6 yards (B.Dawkins).
3rd and 14 at DAL 21 (Shotgun) T.Romo sacked at DAL 17 for -4 yards (R.Hill). FUMBLES (R.Hill), RECOVERED by DEN-D.Williams at DAL 17. D.Williams to DAL 9 for 8 yards (A.Gurode).

Despite the sack by bowen, we give them pretty good field position, because of a penalty.

Then poor special teams coverage allows a 53 yard punt with only a 7 yard return.

We start off good, but then the tripping penalty by Gurode pushes us back. Then there is poor play calling by Jason Garrett. Then Romo just presses on 3rd and long.

Its actually brutal looking at the drive summary for that game. Because I could definitely see us scoring 14 more points and them having 7 less.

I was thinking the same thing about our defense yesterday. Apart from giving up scoring drives at the end of games (and committing stupid penalties), the defense has really played very well, at least from a standpoint of giving up TD drives. Like the OP said, our offense has been putting the defense in a bad spot over and over. It's hard for a defense to continually stop a team when they get the ball in our territory right off the bat. Hopefully the offense can cut way down on the turnovers and penalties. If so, we can be a playoff team.
