we got 2 undrafted players as our 2 starting kick-off return men (Thompson, Austin)

a 7th round pick is our starting NT (Ratliff)

a 7th round pick is our 3rd/nickel corner and the starter till Newman comes back (Reeves)

an undrafted #3 receiver till Terry Glenn comes back (Hurd)

a 7th round #2 receiver, #3 when Glenn comes back (Crayton)

and of course, Tony Romo, undrafted, starting at QB

now if we could only hit on most of our 1st day picks

I sure wish we could hit on all, but i've been a draftnik long enough to know you don't. Lets look at day 1 for the last 4-5 years.

2007
1 Spencer= looks very promising:) :) :) :)
3 Martin= jury will be out for some time

2006
1 Carp= Jurry still out, but looks like a very average #1
2 Fasano= not sure we will find out unless JW gets hurt, but looks to be good player and OK for a #2
3 Hatcher=Nice young DE that we need to give some time. 2007 will tell a lot.

2005
1 Ware= nuf said:)
1 Spears= nuf said:mad:
2 KB=nuf said =

2004
1 Trade down when Jackson was on the board=FK UP of the decade:mad:
2 JJ=4 years of average play and he's out after 07
2 J Rogers= Tuna's baby that should have been aborted:mad:

2003 = Tuna's first year(first 2 months) he had minimal input IMHO.

We got Ware right and Newman right in that draft

Canty for a 4th rounder is a solid rotation guy

Carp I have no Idea I hope he supplants B. James soon that guy is slow he is a solid backup to have or in a rotation just should not be an every down player

Add Al Johnson and Peterman. Witten turned out all right though.

You shouldn't spend first and second round picks on back ups. They should be starting a year or two down the road and be the corner stone of the team. You don't count on hitting on late round picks and undrafted free agents.

Like I've said before, there is talent on this team inspite of Parcells, not because of him.

Exactly-Ireland really deserves the credit for the late round picks.

The main reason why the early round picks were busts was 'cuz Parcells went AGAINST the advice of Ireland(i.e. Jacob Rogers and Pederman).

I was thinking about first day screwups by Bill & Co. earlier today, didn't even want to research it...Now reading it, I realize why...Ouch!!!...What a horrible track record in the 1st couple of rounds

In Tuna's first year as the Jets' GM in '00(which was his last year with the club), they had FOUR 1st round picks(b/c of the Keyshawn trade w/ Tampa that netted them 2). Here's how they went:

LB/DE John Abraham-Pro Bowler

DE Shaun Ellis-Good system 3-4 guy, but not great

TE Andy Becht-Bust

Chad Pennington-started out great, now a Bust

Among his later round picks were L. Coles and Santana Moss(the former good and the latter did nothing in NYJ, and you know the rest of the story)

But OUCH with those FOUR 1st rounders, they were not GREAT. If anything, Abraham is washed out now.

Way too early to clasify anyone after 2005. Spears does appear to have been a dud. Considering the ranking he had by all the experts its hard to blame BP for this one. Rogers is the big loss right now. Half to laugh at the biased and agenda driven post- trying to claim he had very little to do with 2003 draft- which arguably he had MORE influence then the others.
