I was finally able to watch the game tonight I taped.
1) 3 Offsides penalties, 2 by Griffen and 1 by Lawrence, and 1 false start by Tyron Smith. Gave the opposing team a free 20 yards. Other than that, the team was pretty good at avoiding penalties. I don't think there were any holding penalties on the OL or interference on the DBs. Overall pretty good penalty discipline.
2) Dak's first run was not until 8 minutes into the 2nd quarter if I remember correctly. Dak needs to run more early so the teams need to factor that in when playing defense. Not totally sure, but it looks like Goff ran more than Dak. Dak running is a big weapon and he needs to do it more. Do it safely. Get the yards and slide.
3) Cowboys did not even target the TE until 2 minutes left in the first half. Then they go to Schultz about 4 times in the second half. Made little sense to me.
4) Yes, Schultz had a few drops but he made a clutch catch in traffic on 3rd and 9 on the opening drive of the second half.
5) I would try Pollard as TE in place of Jarwin. Pollard needs to be on the field more. With the lack of TE talent on the roster, this might be one way to make better use of him. He would be ok as a blocking TE but a very good receiving threat as a TE.
6) When the Cowboys went to the no huddle at the end of the first half, it was like a warm knife going through butter. Cowboys should be using no huddle more.
7) Lamb is open a lot. Dak hooked up with him in the first half but for some reason, few to no targets in the second half.
8) Only one deep pass the whole game from Dak. It was a strike to Gallup called back on a horrible call. Why not more chances deep with the 3 WRs we have? Made no sense. Open it up.
9) I don't get the Connor Williams hate. I thought he played pretty well except for the Brockers' sack which killed a nice drive. Williams was poor that play but pretty good the other plays. It wasn't like he was going against chopped liver.
10) DL Woods was used as the FB on Zeke's 2nd TD. That was neat.
11) Diggs is good. He was so close on the two long completions he gave up. Really good effort. Too bad the QB made a money throw. Almost had a tipped ball INT. I hope he stays healthy. I think he will be special. Looks to me like he is ahead of where Byron Jones was at the same juncture 5 or 6 years ago. And Diggs just might be our best CB right now.
12) I thought Steele played pretty well for a rookie making his first start. He held his own until the last 4 minutes or so. Maybe he got tired. Maybe it was because the defense isolated him in space one on one with no threat of run and the DL could just tee off. I think he will continue to get better. I think we lucked out getting him as an undrafted FA.
13) The opening drives of the 2nd half were the key to who won and who lost. Cowboys got the ball to start the second half. They were good last year in the 3rd quarter. Big dud this game to open the second half and extend the lead. Instead, the Rams drove down for the TD.
14) Dak had 180-some yards in the first half. Dak was off the second half for the most part for some reason. Dak is usually more clutch. He was real clutch on the long pass to Gallup. If they don't call offensive interference I think the Cowboys win.
