After the meeting with Jones Wade Phillips said, "We had a good meeting and I enjoyed being here. Very encompassing talk and he knows what I’m about as far as trying to get over the things that I can do."

If he doesn’t get the top spot, do you suppose Phillips has agreed to a lateral move to Dallas as the defensive coordinator in the light of Schottenheimer’s precarious situation in San Diego? Maybe they talked about that. I don’t know what Phillips’ contract terms are in San Diego.

I don't know what his cotract says, but there were rumors that the Chargers would give him a raise to keep him from leaving.

I just don't want him.

Why would anyone make a move like that? Gee, I'm going to leave my current job for a job with a team who didn't want me as head coach to work with worse talent. Not likely.

SD gave permission to interview as an HC -- an offer of the DC job would violate the spirit of that permission -- even if it is technically allowed, Jerry would end up having a hard time getting permission to interview others in the future.

can the cowboys name him defensive coordinator/assistant head coach thus making it a slight step up from just being a coordinator?

My understanding is they CAN do that CJR. I think it's a great idea personally. But I think you'd have to give him a substantial raise to make it worth his while. I believe Capers just got 2.7 mil/yr. to stay in Miami. If Jerry gave Wade around that figure for 3 years he'd be making as much or more than Norv. But the weird part is, I'm quite sure Miami is paying Cameron less as HC than Capers is getting! Cameron and Norv are similar in offensive philosophy and laid back personality. But then, Phillips is pretty laid back too. Garrett is very mellow and cerebral. So.........who would kick some butt when needed? Dunno...................

We should just hire Phillips as HC or wait until after the Super Bowl and interview/hire Rivera.

is there any possibility that jerry wouldn't have announced hiring phillips immediately if he was going to hire him at all? maybe he isn't going to hire norv, he is just doing him a favor:money:

then he can hire phillips, name sparano and garret co coordinators.

Most coaches that are hired arent announced right when they interview unless there is a chance of losing them. That chance does not exist here. He will do the interviews with all canidates first

Cameron, Wisenhunt, Kiffin etc none were announced the day they interviewed

Once and for all, you can no longer hire away a coach from another team unless it is as a head coach.

The NFL did away with the "assistant head coach" loop hole

Asst Head Coach ala Hudson Houck right? we could do that right?

In title yes. But assistant coaches aren't interested in lateral moves. Phillips, Rivera, Ryan, etc. want to be HCs -- they all had a great deal of success with their present teams. Let's not kid ourselves that a guy in a good situation is going to come to Dallas and start over.

Also, Sparano is the Assistant Head Coach. You can only have 1. We aren't going to demote him.
