Coach Mike Mularkey indicated that Laurent Robinson has been disappointing to open Jaguars training camp.

The Jags paid Robinson $32.5 million in the offseason, but he hasn't looked like that kind of a wide receiver so far. "He's got to make some plays," Mularkey said. "Maybe he's pressing. I'm not sure." Mularkey is confident that Robinson will "come around," but we doubt it will happen enough to earn him WR3 value in fantasy football. Blaine Gabbert is working against Robinson, as well.

It's so early in camp, I don't see how they can draw any conclusions just yet. Besides, he's dealing with a major downgrade at the QB position.

Considering the contract they gave him, I don't see them letting him go though, at least not this season.

I think it's early perceptions rather than conclusions...kind of like we're seeing Beasley at this point...still early

I don't think its a coincidence that his connection with Romo had alot to do with his success here. Romo has been known to be a master at extending plays, and Robinson seemed to always be able to improvise on routes to get open. I think that was his greatest skill and its one that isn't going to be nearly as effective in other offenses with other personel around him.

I have to agree with you

Romo is not your average NFL QB. So it is maybe no surprise that Robinson did not look like much before Romo and might not look like much after Romo.

I have a nasty thought.

he bombs there and is released and we get him back.

:laugh2:
awesome

Agree with those saying it's early yet... but also with the Romo vs. Gabbert to Robinson considerations.

Jags fans cannot be too happy reading anything touching on "disappointing" where LR is concerned. Add in the unresolved issues of Justin Blackmon's DUI and contract negotiations to the mix... just the sorta stuff that can serve to bring the early exuberance of a fan base down a few notches.

Lol they dont have a qb and we have one of the best in the league. Jag fans cant be too mad. It cant really be like any of there fans think they have a shot at anything this or next 3 years.

yeah read that this morning on rotoworld too.

Looks like I'm not the only one thinking about him bombing there, being cut, and us picking him up on a discount! haha

A long while ago -- like the mid 90s the 49ers had a starting OL player leave as a free agent. He stunk it up so much that he got cut. SF got him back -- pretty much for the same deal that he had left for, minus the SB, of course.

Further concerns coming out of Jags' Monday camp, backing what several Zoners have been saying...

Unsigned first-round pick Justin Blackmon has missed five days of camp. Franchise running back Maurice Jones-Drew is holding out, with no resolution in sight. Big-ticket offseason addition Laurent Robinson struggled throughout the first few practices, and dropped more passes on Monday.

Jaguars training camp is off to a brutal start. One development that could spark the team would be a big second-year leap from quarterback Blaine Gabbert. But if Monday’s training camp display was any indication, Gabbert isn’t yet ready to deliver.

According to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times Union, Gabbert executed just one completion among 12 passing snaps in Monday’s morning practice. He scrambled seven or eight times. The remainder of Gabbert’s dozen passing plays fell incomplete. Mularkey explained away Gabbert’s tendency to scramble as a product of coaching. As relayed by Stellino, Gabbert is “taught not to force throws.”

Perhaps the receivers were to blame. Or maybe the offensive line. Either way, Gabbert doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt after an abysmal rookie year.

Gabbert is fast reaching BUST status.

I can understand robinson having troubles at the beginning. He is used to a QB that can put the ball within reach.

Think you're right! Man, what wouldn't the Jags give for a Kyle Orton about now... not to mention a Tony Romo?

I'm not so sure why this is ground breaking news.

Couchscout had said this would happen to Robinson. He doesn't beat anyone by his route running or athtleticism, he just knew the system in Dallas and reached his landmarks on time and in place.

Alot of his TDs were the result of broken plays where Romo bought time for him. The explanation is that simple.

I always felt that Garrard was more of a bright spot, not a liability for them.
Their playoff win on the road vs Pittsburgh seems like a decade ago now.
The next game he threw for nearly 300 yards and 2 TDs (100 QB rating in a loss at New England.
But when fans want a scape goat they sometimes get one.

They had no WRs whatsoever there then. I'm not sure what the excuse is now, because they have a couple of guys that can play now.
